Are you having an 'almost' relationship? You need to read this

1/7

What is it exactly an almost relationship

The world of love and dating is already complicated and matters turn worse when you are in an ‘almost’ relationship. Wondering what is an 'almost' relationship? It is a situation when both the people concerned have a connection, compatibility, and they share a bond feels like a romantic relationship. But there is also constant doubt and uncertainty about this bond, and obviously, there is no commitment.

2/7

The common signs

To put in into simpler words, you and your partner do all the stuff a regular couple would do like spending time together, texting all day, sharing secrets and maybe, having those romantic conversations, but you are NOT in a relationship! This so-called friendship has been going on for a while and this bond has blurry boundaries.

3/7

How long would you be able to bear it?

In case, you are in an almost relationship, it can only survive when it is heading somewhere. Since there is no clarity on the kind of bond you share, how would you react when your almost-partner starts liking someone else and prefers to text that new person instead of you? Or, would it count as cheating if you go on a date with someone else or install a dating app to chat with strangers? The worst case scenario, would you be able to stay sane the day your almost-partner suddenly cuts off all communication and vanishes from your life? Being in an almost-relationship is all about ambiguity and grey areas; you think you can survive it without hurting your feelings?

4/7

What you need to do

You need to realise what exactly are you seeking from a relationship and a partner. An almost relationship surely lacks commitment, open communication and emotional stability in some cases, but it surely has the potential to grow and turn into a romantic affair. Are you willing to commit or are just looking for a casual relationship? Most importantly, are you both on the same page emotionally?

5/7

Be upfront and talk!

The only way to gain clarity (and in turn, peace of mind) is by holding an honest and candid discussion with your friend. Talk about what you are looking for and where you want to see this friendship going in future. Explain how you both might be unintentionally playing with each other’s feelings, and make it a point that this conversation helps you both to define the boundaries of this relationship.

6/7

Taking a step back

In case, you are the one who isn’t willing to take the relationship to the next level and want to end it, make sure you give your friend the reasons for the same. Tell what you admired about him or her, how you had a great time and wish your friend luck for the future. A break-up is always easier to deal when there is a closure.

7/7

Remember this

If your friend wants to officially end this relationship, take it in good spirit. He or she is actually doing you a favour by saving you from the guessing game and emotional turmoil. For all the obvious reasons, it might be almost as painful as a break-up but it all would be worth it. Remember, to not settle for anything less than you deserve and be hopeful life has better things in store for you.
