Using astrology to parent a child? The pros and cons

Astrological predictions have always been debated

Parents take cues from everywhere to make sure that they raise the 'perfect' kids. From astrology to seeking professionals parents can go to any height to make sure that their kids receive the best parental guidance and support.

The onus of raising the future citizens of the society, who they feel in every way would resemble their upbringing, makes parents anxious of their parenthood every single time.

In this context, it is important to weigh all the methods that one is implementing to improve the parent-child relationship. Of the several methods, which are popular among parents, the most common one is astrology and following the prediction for zodiac signs.

Astrology's predictions have always been debated. While many claim it to be dubious, many others say they follow it religiously.

Amidst these claims and debates, we will measure the different pros and cons associated with the role of astrology in parenting.

2/5

Pros of astrology in parenting

A father/ mother's preparedness for the child can never be underestimated. Many parents see astrological predictions as a communication from an unseen power. A bad prediction will alert the parents to be ready for any mishap and in the similar manner a good prediction will help them to encourage their child.

Astrology can be a good source of parenting if its predictions are just considered as a forewarning, without any fear or excitement.

3/5

Cons of astrology in parenting

When astrology steps into superstitions, it can worsen the parent child relationship and might also hinder the proper growth of a child.

Many parents depend on the assurances given by astrologers and solely rely on their predictions for the future of the child. This is where everything goes wrong.

Falsity and ignorance tend to engulf the reality of parenting. Instead of encouraging the child into hardwork and sincerity for a better life, parents push them towards practicing beliefs which are only based on the claims of a few people.

4/5

Stereotyping

Astrological belief creates a divide and stereotypes among individuals. For example, parents tend to treat their child differently after they get to know about their zodiac traits. In case there are siblings, the parental behaviour for the kids differ based on their zodiac preferences.

In many cases, the mannerism of a child is attributed to their zodiac signs. Instead of correcting the behaviour of a child, parents often acknowledge it as an astrological implication.

This should not be encouraged in a parent-child relationship. Astrological predictions should never be treated as concrete.

5/5

What should parents do?

Parents should actually focus on reality instead of claims and passive truth. Things which are intangible and are only based on the claims made by those whose belief is again based on intangible elements, should never be implemented in life.

If there's a reason for which such practices can not be avoided, parents should make sure to keep the involvement as minimal as possible.
