Parenting trends of the decade

As the decade is nearing its end, we cannot help but ponder over some drastic changes that took place in the parenting landscape. From helicopter parenting, gender neutrality to Instagram mommies, a lot went down in the past 10 years. Here we have charted the entire journey of the decade, in no particular order...

2/6

The rise of mommy bloggers and Insta mommies

Internet revolutionised parenting in this decade. Many mothers took up to blogging about their parenting journey (some even ended it in the same decade) and many took up the role of Instagram mommies. Instagramming about their little bunnies to extending support to fellow moms, it turned out to be a great supportive platform for mothers.

3/6

The big deal about kids and screen time

There were several studies that focused on the harmful effects of excessive screen time for kids. Parents acknowledged that reckless long hours of screen exposure may be harming the well being of their child. Screen time is defined as the time a person spends looking at the screen. If children spend more than two hours of computers, tablets, phones, then it can be detrimental to their health.

4/6

‘Smart’phone parenting

Schools apps, online shopping for kids, staying connected with fellow parents through Whatsapp, Googling common kids’ queries, this decade saw the biggest technological shift in the style of parenting. All our life is now intertwined with our mobile phones and we cannot fully deny its usefulness.

5/6

Mental health awareness for kids

Most parents before this decade thought mental health was a thing only for adults but the past few years has helped parents understand the importance and impact of mental health on kids, as young as 5. Kids who do not find help on time often take drastic measures, which can turn out to be fatal. That is the reason that most schools now have an in-house counsellor to guide kids. Parents are more in tune with their child’s needs and moods.

6/6

Moms feeling inadequate

Parents continue to judge and getting judged. And that has somewhere settled the feeling of being inadequate among parents, mostly moms. They keep dwindling between feelings of anxiety, unsurety with episodes of joyous parenting.
