Tips to boost male fertility

When it comes to conceiving, both the partners play an equal role in it. Along with the grade of the woman's eggs, the quality of a man's sperm count also matters for a healthy pregnancy. Low sperm count or low quality of sperm can make it difficult for any couple to conceive normally. These kinds of problems are not uncommon but are often ignored. Most of the time, fertility issues occur due to everyday lifestyle habits and can be easily overcome by making changes in them. There are only few severe cases of fertility which are not always treatable. So, if you are looking to boost your fertility and increase your sperm count, here are a few changes you must make in your daily routine.

2/6

Exercise regularly

Time and again researchers have pressed upon the benefits of exercising regularly. While most people believe that exercising is for losing weight or building muscles, the reality is it can help you in a varied number of ways. Regular exercising can add years to your life, reduce the risk of chronic diseases and boost your reproductive health. Even 30 minutes of moderate exercising in a day can help to increase sperm count and boost fertility.

3/6

Quit smoking and alcohol intake

Excessive tobacco or alcohol consumption can also reduce the quality of the sperm, increasing the risk of infertility. Drinking alcohol regularly can lower testosterone levels, cause erectile dysfunction and decrease sperm production. On the other hand, tobacco can decrease sperm concentration, decreased sperm motility and increased sperm DNA damage. Both firsthand and secondhand smoking have the same effect on male fertility.

4/6

Maintain a healthy weight

Studies suggest that overweight men are 11 per cent more likely to have a low sperm count as compared to healthy men. Besides, they are 39 per cent more likely to have no sperm in their ejaculate. Losing weight and maintaining a healthy body mass index (BMI) can help to boost fertility and also enhance sperm motility. For that, you need to exercise and eat healthily.

5/6

Add vitamin supplements to your diet

If you are facing fertility issues, add Vitamin C and D supplements to your diet after consulting your doctor. Vitamin C not only boosts immunity but can also improve semen quality, count and motility. Apart from that, taking Vitamin D can increase testosterone levels, increasing the chances of conceiving by 20 per cent. Intake of Zinc supplements has also proven to be beneficial for those trying to increase their sperm count.

6/6

Manage your stress level

Unmanaged stress level is linked with erectile dysfunction, low libido and low sperm count, all the factors that can pose a challenge when planning a baby. So, if you and your partner are facing difficulty while trying to get pregnant look for ways to manage your stress level. Practise meditation, engage in some activities or seek professional help.
