These are called counter-regulatory hormones because they work against insulin, causing the liver to release more glucose into the bloodstream.

In people with Type 2 diabetes, the body either doesn’t make enough insulin or doesn’t respond to it well. So when these hormones raise blood sugar, the body can’t bring it down effectively.” Is it the Dawn Phenomenon or the Somogyi Effect? In some cases, adjusting the timing or dosage of evening diabetes medications or insulin may be necessary, but such changes should always be made under medical supervision.
