What is acid reflux?

Acid reflux happens when stomach contents return into the oesophagus. It is also known as acid heartburn or gastroesophageal reflux (GER) and is common in children and adults. Stomach gas irritates the walls of the oesophagus, which can lead to complications later. Don’t worry, only 25% of teens experience it. It's mostly observed in adults.
Symptoms or signs of it can be Heartburn, chest pains, Nausea, frequent Vomiting, breathing problems, dehydration, and loss of Appetite.

Causes of acid reflux

Vidhi Chawla, dietician, and founder, Fisico diet clinic says, “Acid reflux disease develops when the lower esophageal sphincter, the muscle that segregates the oesophagus from the stomach, weakens or relaxes abnormally, allowing stomach contents (stomach acid) to rise into the oesophagus.”
Because of the following factors, this muscle could become weak or unusually comfortable:
Excess abdominal pressure caused by being overweight or obese.
Some painkillers, antidepressants, and sedatives.
Asthma treatment medications
Antihistamines
Tobacco uses or Passive smoking
Prior abdominal or esophageal surgery
