​Try these sweet potato recipes for weight loss

Potatoes are simply extroverts that can be eaten in any form, be it fried, curried, boiled, or baked.However, for those looking to lose weight, sweet potatoes are an excellent alternative to include in their diet. Sweet potatoes are high in fibre and contain vitamins B5 and B6, aiding metabolism and keeping you full for longer. This nutrient-dense potato is widely available, especially during the winter months. Dr. Archana Batra, a dietician, and a certified diabetes educator has compiled 5 lip-smacking sweet potato recipes for you to gorge on!

Now, let's tie up the aprons and get cooking!

​Roasted Snacks

Ingredients -

Sunflower/Olive Oil,Onion & Garlic Powder,Oil,Cumin Seeds, Chat masala, Lemon juice and Salt Per Taste

Step 1: Dice sweet potatoes and set aside.

Step 2: Heat sunflower/olive oil in a pan.

Step 3: Add in the cumin seeds, garlic & onion powder

Lastly add the diced sweet potato and roast until tender. After that, sprinkle it with black salt, lemon juice, coriander, and chat masala. Toss it all together and enjoy your flavorful snack.

​Shakarkandi Tikki


Ingredients

Oil,Chopped onion,tomato,chillies and coriander,Garlic & Ginger paste,Cumin powder, Black pepper, wheat flour (atta) and Salt as per taste.

Step 1: Boil the sweet potatoes, set aside

Step 2: In a pan sauté the above mentioned ingredients, except the atta

Step 3: Cool down the sauté

Step 4: Mash the potatoes and mix the sautéd ingredients, including the atta.

Finally, shape your tikkis and shallow fry them.

Sprinkle with chat masala and enjoy!

​Sweet Potato Halwa


Ingredients

Ghee, Dry fruits, cardamom, elaichi and jaggery

Step 1: Boil 2 medium to large sweet potatoes. Mash it and keep aside.

Step 2: Heat ghee in a wok (kadai) or pan.

Step 3: Saute a few dry fruits till golden and set aside.

Step 4: In the same oil, temper cardamom and elaichi.

Step 5: Saute the mashed sweet potatoes on medium heat for 3-4 minutes

Step 6:Add jaggery and a pinch of salt. Mix well and sauté for 4 to 5 minutes on medium heat.

Keep stirring and cooking the halwa till the ghee starts to leave the sides of the pan. This will take approximately 10 to 12 minutes.Top it with dry fruits and dig in!

Sweet Potato Roti

Ingredients

Whole wheat flour (atta),mashed sweet potatoes,pinch of salt and cumin seeds.

Step 1: In a bowl, merge all ingredients and knead into a soft dough.

Step 2: Divide the dough in small portions, the same as roti.

Step 3: Roll out each part and shape into a roti.

Step 4: Take a non-stick pan and heat ghee/oil

Step 5: Cook each roti on medium heat until golden brown.

Eat it with chutney or a side dish, and relish!

​Sweet Potato Pancake


Ingredients

Sweet potato puree, eggs, whole wheat flour (atta),milk,cinnamon,honey and baking soda.

Step 1: In a bowl, Mix sweet potato puree and eggs.

Step 2: Add milk, wheat flour and rest of the ingrediets gradually.

Step 3: Heat the oil in a pan and flip the batter into pancakes.

Top it with fruits and honey, enjoy!
