How to eat out and not disturb the weighing scale!

One of the greatest challenges to lose weight is to commit to a diet and say goodbye to your favourite junk food. But even after you swear to not eat another unmindful bag of chips, your phone rings and your gang is heading out for a meal or drink. Now how do you stick to your weight loss mission? Does this mean you cannot socialise from now on or will have to deal with judgy eyes when you hardly eat anything at the restaurant?

Don’t worry, we got you covered. You can still go out (once a week preferably) and eat the foods that you generally should not be eating on a weight loss diet, without worrying about regaining your lost weight.

Here are some simple and practical tips and tricks that can help you enjoy a meal at a restaurant with friends and family, without worrying about the weighing scale.

2/6

Pay attention to portion size

Mastering your portion size can enable you to eat all the food like pasta or pizza that may lead to weight gain. The key is to eat them only in a limited quantity and fill yourselves up with other healthier options such a salad or grilled veggies.

3/6

Watch your drinks

Alcohol comes with empty calories so it is important to watch your alcohol intake when eating out. If you choose to drink, experts advise to prefer drinking with a meal. Alcoholic beverages are high in calories and people often end up drinking too much thinking they won’t gain much weight since it is a liquid.

If you're not drinking alcohol, make sure your drink option has no sodas, sugar syrups or heavy creams.

4/6

Eat in before you eat out

Have you ever avoided eating much during the day when you had big dinner plans for the night? Or perhaps skipped breakfast and stayed hungry till you reached your favourite cafe for lunch with friends?

This habit is super common and one which needs to be broken, especially if you're on a weight loss plan. On the other hand, eating a healthy snack – which can be as simple as a cucumber or an apple – can prevent you from chomping on the fries at the restaurant.

5/6

Start your meal with soup or salad

If you are eating out for the experience of dining out and catching up with pals, then maybe it should not matter much what exactly you eat. Try to move slowly towards healthier food items, like salads or soups.

What’s more, if you order these healthy appetizers first, there are chances that you will feel full sooner and not eat too much of the unhealthy or fatty snacks ordered later. This will also help in preventing overeating.

6/6

Enjoy it!

A lot of people give up dieting because they are unable to eat with a care-free attitude as before. While managing a diet can be challenging, especially when you go out to socialize, you do not need to worry about it too much.

Going on a diet should not ruin your love for food and make you afraid, thinking what-would-happen-if-I-eat-a-slice-of-pizza. You can always do some extra workout in the morning and the day after eating out, to burn some extra calories. Go for a light dinner if you had a heavy lunch, and this, along with the above mentioned tips, can help to not ruin your weight loss progress.
