What caused the weight gain?

During COVID-19 lockdown, I gained too much weight. The lack of exercise, the lack of energy for workout along with the oily food I had been consuming all these years took a toll on my fitness. I looked like this in May 2021 (with only two photos serving as evidence of my obesity at the time).

What was the turning point in your weight loss journey?

Here, I weighed above 70 kgs! I didn't think I could drop even a kilo! Not to add that I had lost my energy and felt too exhausted to perform something as simple as climbing stairs. Of course, my brush with coronavirus was also responsible for these side effects. But, my deteriorating health condition was an eye opener for sure.

Describe the diet and workout regime you followed

I was extremely fortunate to find a highly knowledgeable and experienced dietician who helped me shed all the excess pounds and enable me to attain my previous goal of being in the 50s weight range! I was never confident approaching a nutritionist. I was also wary of fad diets and other weight-loss techniques like consuming protein powders. But the dietician my cousin recommended was a godsend. She assisted me draft a simple diet plan with homemade food only. I walked 5000 steps everyday and worked out for an hour 5 days a week.

Is there a fitness secret that worked in your favour?

Body-shaming I was subjected to acted as a fitness motivation. It’s how you perceive the wrong to make it right. I finally reduced the weight and stopped people from body-shaming me! I made minor modifications to my meals rather than any smoothies or powders and that was very helpful.

Diet and consistent exercise have been key components of our weight loss quest. The nicest part of 2021 has been the realisation and motivation to lose weight and actually do it! Without a doubt, I am quite appreciative of the Almighty!

What was the most difficult part about being overweight?

On September 1, Mom's birthday, I was 65 kgs. I dropped to 59.50 kgs in 6 months. Earlier, I used to feel lethargic all the time. Not only do I feel lighter, but I can work as much as I want around the house and in the office without getting exhausted or gasping for air.
