Silambarasan shares his weight loss journey

Popular Tamil star TR Silambarasan, also known as Simbu, has surprised everyone with his drastic transformation. In a recent YouTube video, the actor revealed how he lost 30 kilos in 2 years and fans are in awe of the actor's hard work and determination. From his diet to the workout routines to the activities he took up, the video titled #Atman unveils everything Silambarasan did to achieve his fitness goals. All you need to know about his exercise routine

When Silambarasan started his weight loss journey, he weighed 101kgs. During a shoot for the movie Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, where the actor had to make a run, he realised how unfit he had become, following which he decided to begin his fitness journey. Now, he weighs 71kg, losing 30 kgs.

The actor indulged in rigorous training. His exercise routine consisted of walking, running, weight lifting, treadmill run, boxing and more. He also went swimming and participated in outdoor activities such as horse-riding, badminton, tennis, football, etc.. Yoga and meditation was also a part of his fitness routine, as depicted in the video, that has over 25 lakh views.


Encouraging others to take the fitness challenge, Simbu says, “Don’t put on weight in life thinking it is easy to lose it. But if you do, embrace it and go for training.”

The actor also indulged in Kalaripayattu and Silambattam

Besides incorporating different exercises to his workout routine, Silambarasan is also seen learning Kalaripayattu and Silambattam - Indian martial art practices designed for the ancient battlefield.

Bharatanatyam was his go-to dance form

The actor also learnt Bharatanatyam from Malayalam-Tamil actor Sharanya Mohan.


Bharatanatyam is a form of Indian classical dance that originated in the modern-day Tamil Nadu. It dates back to the Natyashastra written by Bharata Muni and Abhinaya Darpana by Nandikeshvara.

What did the actor eat?

Reportedly, the actor cut down on junk food and turned vegetarian. He quit eating meat, only had home-cooked meals which consisted of vegetables. He believed in eating healthy, which is why he chose nutrient-dense foods.


The video also revealed that the actor completed the 41-day Mandala period fasting - significant to the annual Sabarimala pilgrimage in Kerala.
