It is important to discard the myths associated with weight loss

When it comes to weight loss, we often rush into following the strategies laid down by others without even verifying it. Be it a trending weight loss rule or the weight management tips passed down from generations we should always verify facts and keep them aside from myths and false information.

Read: Did you know your body eats itself daily?

Here we will talk about various myths associated with weight loss:

2/7

Raw food will enhance weight loss

We have this common understanding that anything that is raw and has not been cooked is good for the body and burns the fat. This is the reason why many people opt for raw food, go for salads when planning to lose weight.

There are several downsides to eating raw food. First, it is not scientifically proven that having raw food can help reduce weight. Second, having raw food might facilitate microbes to enter your food. Sometimes raw foods carry unseen microbes which do not even go away with simple washing.

Therefore apart from those foods which are meant for salad, do not attempt to include every other food in your raw diet.

3/7

Starving is the key to lose weight

No! By starving you are putting your body at more risk than before. Food does not lead to weight loss; excess of it does. When you don't watch your calories and end up eating more than your body can burn, you put on weight. Though there are other risk factors too, this is a common estimation for why one gains weight.

Do not starve yourself. This way your body may not get sufficient energy to operate as a result of which several complications can arise.

4/7

Eating fat makes you fat

This is a very wrong narration around weight gain.

Having fats in the form of ghee is very good for the health. Human body actually needs fats to function properly.

However, fats that enter the body in the form of trans fat, in the form of chips, or baked products are harmful for the body and should be avoided at any cost whether you are overweight or not.

5/7

Drop carbs from menu if want to lose weight

Another myth which is so prevalent among weight watchers that nobody cares to check its authenticity.

Carbohydrates are called energy giving foods; dropping them entirely will not provide the body sufficient energy as a result of which the individual will feel listless forever.

It is always advisable to consult an expert before embarking on a weight loss journey so that you know what to eat and what not to eat.

6/7

All calories are same

No. The calorie obtained from a protein source is not the same as the calorie obtained from a carb source. It takes different options for the body to process these calories.

Though calorie as a general term seems to be common for all, it is not the same when obtained from different food sources.

7/7

Don't just aim for weight loss, aim for staying healthy

We all have this wrong understanding that skinny people are healthy. No!

The weight of an individual decides the health to some extent. Having a standard weight does not mean you have a good internal body system.

Sometimes people push themselves to lose weight to such an extent that though on the outer side they appear to be fit and fine, on the inner side they remain unhealthy struggling with several health complications.

It is prudent to focus on being healthy first than simply fitting into the beauty trend.
