A bowl of oats or a plateful of dalia?

Oats or Dalia? This is likely to create a rift between respective food followers. Both of them have high respect and a big fan base among fitness enthusiasts. A bowl of oats or a plateful of dalia, which is better for weight management is difficult to zero in but their nutritional composition can shed some light and help us in choosing the best one for us.

2/4

Calories

Calorie decides which is a good candidate for weight loss. As per USDA data, 100 grams of raw oats and dalia contain 389 and 342 calories, respectively.

Calorie dense foods have been the ideal recommendation to those who intend to lose weight. These foods keep the individual full for a longer duration and break the tendency of snacking. It is advisable to eat high calorie food so that the body gets time to break down the food completely, it gets sufficient nutrients from the food and the weight is managed due to sufficient intake of food.

Oats and dalia have similar calorie count with a marginal difference.

3/4

Nutritional composition

100 grams of oats contain 16.9 grams of protein and 66.3 grams of carbohydrates, which are its highest nutrients along with 10.6 grams of fiber and 6.9 grams of fats.

In a similar amount of dalia, the carbohydrate amount is 76grams and the protein content is 12 grams, both higher than what is present in oats. However, dietary fiber in dalia is less than what it is in oats. In 100 grams of dalia 6.7 grams of fiber is present.

So depending on your gut system, if you need more fiber in your body then it is ideal to have oats, though having dalia will not be a bad decision.

"Oats offer more soluble fiber than other grains, leading to slower digestion, increased fullness, and appetite suppression. Soluble oat beta glucans are unique among fibers, as they can form a gel-like solution at a relatively low concentration," says a report of a health journal.

4/4

Availability and preparation

Both of them are plentily available in India though at the hyperlocal level, the availability of oats is mostly limited. Oats can be found in supermarkets and dalia is abundantly found in the closest departmental store.

So depending on what is easily available to you, you can have either oats or dalia. If both of these are available in plenty you can eat it alternatively in a week or in weeks.

In terms of cooking, again oats and dalia are no competition. These are super easy to make and cook within a few minutes. The best part is these can be cooked with seasonal and local ingredients, and when it is coupled with such nutritious supplements their nutritional value shoots up.
