The right mental health to achieve weight loss

The psychological blocks can definitely mar our weight loss process; sometimes even with rigorous exercises and healthy diet we are unable to shed the extra kilos due to emotional blocks. Check your patterns and habits in daily life and witness the ease in shedding the extra pounds.

Psychological causes hindering weight loss

Negative body image- Some people measure their self-worth as per their body stats. They think that their worth is determined by body, shape, size or the food that they eat. This is a great block when you are trying to eat health your maintain a healthy weight. Negative body image can unconsciously lead to unhealthy eating patterns and other physical ailments.

Stress- If you will take too much stress while trying to lose weight, you might not see a change in your weight despite best efforts. When stressed your body produces more cortisol which aids in weight gain. Stress also leads to overeating as it is the best way to calm your emotions.

Depression- Depression can cause a lot of problem not only mentally but physically as well. It leads to drastic weight fluctuations as the perception of being overweight makes you distressed physiologically and may lead to depression. Symptoms related to depression like sleeplessness or fatigue can make weight loss process more difficult. Medication required to curb depression also leads to weight gain. Therefore depression due to obesity or extra weight should be discussed with a mental health practitioner urgently and then the process of weight loss should be started.

Methods to overcome emotional blocks

Patiently handle the weight loss process as the major mental block to weight loss is wanting too much, too fast. To think yourself thin wait, persevere and keep determined. See yourself in a positive light and carry out activities of your choice.

Do not set big targets to lose weight. “Live in reality”. Lose weight in a manner which is sustainable and safe. Reckoning havoc in your life by way of starvation or remaining fatigued and lethargic will make you suffer in the long run.

Create a proper diet journal, write the meals you have taken, calories burn and workouts executed to keep a track on the weight loss process.

It’s easy to reduce

Depriving your body from food is a wrong method to lose weight as it might lead to other physical problems. Eat fewer calories than you burn, reduce carbs, increase proteins and fibres, exercise well and most importantly keep confident, happy and smiling. Remember it’s always ‘one day at a time’ which works.
