A glimpse of Abhishek Bachchan's new avatar

Abhishek Bacchan is all set to amaze his fans with his spectacular performance in the upcoming series "Bob Biswas". With the release of the trailer, the actor has been garnering praises not just for his acting skills, but also for the great transformation he went for to ace the role.

In the trailer, we can see Abhishek take on a more serious look, appearing healthier and chubbier than his usual self. It is believed that the actor, rather than opting for a fat suit, chose to gain massive weight, so as to make his role appear more real and authentic.

No to 'prosthetics'

In a recent interview, Abhishek revealed that he was completely against prosthetics.

"Yes, that is something that Sujoy (Ghosh) and Diya (Annapurna Ghosh) wanted to explore first. I was dead against it. We did try it on to just you know, I like to give everybody a fair opportunity. I said I will try it," he said.

However, the actor wasn't satisfied with the result. "I wasn’t happy with it because of the lack of movement. When you put on a prosthetic stomach, it is very inanimate. And you look fake somewhere. I believe today your audience wants to see an actor being completely authentic with the material that they have," he explained.

How did he do it?

It sure wasn't a piece of cake for the actor. While weight loss is a task, gaining a lot of weight in a short span of time can be as challenging.

According to Abhishek, he had pushed his limits in the past when he acted in "Guru" 14-15 years ago. He did the same in Big Bull, which is his recent movie. However, when it came to "Bob Biswas", the actor said he had to work harder.

"But for Bob I had to push it to another level. I weighed between 100-105 kilos during the shoot. And if you see Bob’s face, the face changes when it is round and his cheeks fill up. When you do prosthetics on the cheeks it looks like a prosthetic. So, the stomach moves in a different way.

When you have that weight and you are physically carrying that weight your entire performance changes because your body language changes your weight, your movement, your walk, your run, everything changes you know," he reveals.

The actor reveals the biggest roadblock

While revisiting the biggest challenges he faced during the shoot, the actor says, “I mean to put on the weight obviously shooting in Kolkata in winter when you can have Gud Sandesh and all the wonderful sweet food that Kolkata has, but mentally I got stuck because we had to shut down our shoot halfway through because of the lockdown and we were about 80 percent complete.

And, we had another 10-15 days of work left. Throughout the lockdown, I had to maintain that weight. That was tough.”

Times other B-town actors gained weight for roles

Abhishek's determination to master his role in the new series is commendable. However, it is not the first time Bollywood actors have set the bars so high. Actors like Kangana Ranaut, Aamir Khan, Kriti Sanon, Ranbir Kapoor, Vidya Balan and many others have taken the pains to gain extra kilos for their roles in movies.
