The RIGHT way to clean your water bottles at home

Summer or winter, hydration is the most important thing you should keep a check on. Keeping a tab on your water intake is essential, it keeps your body away from so many illnesses and helps you lose weight as well. No wonder, having a water bottle is the one thing most of us don’t leave home without.

2/10

Beware! Your bottle is hiding germs!

However, a water bottle isn’t as clean as it appears. You might be thinking that it stores water so how can it be unclean? The truth is, there are a lot more germs hiding in your cosy bottle which could be potentially harmful.

3/10

The water is not that clean!

While you are only seeing the water, the surface of your bottle is moist and wet, making it an easy ground for bacteria and mould to grow in. Thus, your water, even the filtered one has the chance to get infected and trouble your stomach.

4/10

Hot water doesn't do the job well!

While we believe simply refilling the bottle with hot water can give it a good wash and keep it clean, hot water only kills some of the germs but does not sanitise it.

5/10

Sanitise the bottle before drinking

Here we tell you 5 different ways to give your water bottle thorough cleaning and ensure that you get the best quality water

6/10

Throw it in the wash

A good and easy way to clean your bottles is to throw them in the sink or the dishwasher. Make sure to check the labels on the bottom of your bottle.

7/10

Soak in soapy water

This method would require a slim bottle brush which could scrub and do away with all kinds of grime. Soaking the bottle with some water and liquid detergent for about 10-15 minutes would do the job just as well. Make sure to remove the straw and the cap and clean them separately.

8/10

Vinegar to the rescue

If you prefer a natural cleaning agent, vinegar would be your best bet. White vinegar is a good way to kill all the germs and small viruses which may stick to the surface. However, it takes a long time to do so but works wonderfully. Fill the bottle with vinegar and let it sit overnight. You will have a chemical free bottle in no time.

9/10

Use light bleaching agents

Making use of light bleaching agents can vanish the germs in one go. Bleach should be mixed with water and then given a good rinse. Allow the bottle to dry completely.

10/10

Use cleansing tablets

Any kind of dissolving tablets are a good way to clean the bottle. Pour the bottle with water, dissolve a tablet and let it sit for atleast 30 mins. You will have a squeaky clean bottle in no time.
