I tried following Kama Sutra for a week, here’s how it went

Here's what happened when I tried following Kama Sutra for a week

One random evening, strolling my Instagram feed, I came across a post on Kama Sutra, the love manual. I thought it must be another click-bait headlines which talk about some weird sex positions that are doing rounds every day on the net and yet, I happened to click it (they win). But, to my surprise, it had many things I never knew about Kama Sutra, which I will be talking about as I take ahead my story of an adventure I decided to tread on after I read that story.

Full disclosure

Full disclosure: I am a 32-year-old married woman, living with my husband in an apartment in Andheri East. We are married for only two months now but know each other for over seven years. We are truly open to each other and love adventure. So, this gave me an idea of undertaking a Kama Sutra adventure in my bedroom for a period of 7 days. It’s time we tested the wisdom of the ancient Vātsyāyana (those who don’t know, the author of Kama Sutra) and that's how I did it.

The adventure: Well, including me who remains quite aware about all the bizarre cults and latest trends about sex, many don’t know that Kama Sutra is only 20 per cent sex positions. Rest 80 per cent can be called a love manual. I decided that for 7 days of the week, I will pick one-a-day interesting aspect of the book and try it with my husband. So, here’s how it went. (I would spare you much detailing as it’s private and would delve on what I picked and how that has impacted our relationship).

3/10

Day 1

So, I told my husband about the adventure yesterday and at first, he thought I wasn’t serious. But then, he knows I am not a kidder kind. So, here we go.

Kama Sutra literally has a thing called ‘motionless sex’. That’s my pick for the day. It involves staring into each other’s eyes while putting your hands on each other’s chest. You must synchronize your breath while you look at each other. This is supposed to be done for as long a period as possible without moving. I am proud that we did it for close to five minutes without laughing it off. My husband called it an “occult thing you are (me) using to make me fall for you (me)”. Well, it did feel like one but not not at all in a bad sense. It was beautiful!

Day 2

Today’s pick is elaborating the 4 stages of love-making – Preparation, Foreplay, Sexual Congress and Afterplay. For preparation, I took a shower and dressed up, as being attractive is also an essential part of sex as per the love manual. I decorated our bedroom with scented candles and fresh roses. We indulged in a very long foreplay, followed by sexual congress, which refers to the act of lovemaking. For afterplay, we cuddled and talked for about an hour. Today, my husband said that now he has begun liking this adventure and asked me what is my third day’s pick. Did you think I told him? Not so soon! (Well, that’s also an act of keeping him curious. You see, Kama Sutra is teaching me things.)

5/10

Day 3

Today’s pick is, well, scratching! Yes, Kama Sutra recommends women to scratch their husbands. It is known to arouse them and keep them worked up. There are many, many types of scratching that are explained in the book, such as circling on their bodies, scratching them like with a tiger’s claw, a peacock’s foot or like a lotus leap. I tried many of them and sure I left him with some harsh scratches. But I had made sure that I don’t have any pointy nails that may hurt him. By the end of the session, I left him gasping for more, literally! He told me, “I didn’t know you could get that wild!” Oh, indeed I could!

6/10

Day 4

Today’s pick is different types of kissing. For this, I had to train my husband too. So there are three types as per the love manual, throbbing, measured and brushing. We did all three to each other. I kissed him not just on his lips or forehead, but many other places (spare me to detail). He did that to me too. And one major take-back – Try kissing inside the mouth while involving a synchronization of breath! That was the peak for the day!

7/10

Day 5

This one wasn’t restricted to our bedroom as I did it all day. Today, I tried, to be exact, 8 different types of embraces! These are: twining of a creeper, climbing a tree, mixture of sesame seed with rice, milk and water embrace, thigh embrace, breast embrace, head embrace and ‘jaghana’ embrace, this one being the most intimate and sensuous one as it involved rubbing against each other through the thigh area (for the sake of euphemism). All these were so beautiful and left us asking for more and more!

8/10

Day 6

Today’s pick was oral sex. Kama Sutra is very radical, not just for its age but even today. The book tells that penetration isn’t the only thing in sex for women, and that indeed is true! We tried other forms and it was absolutely terrific!

9/10

Day 7

Today was the grand finale of this adventure and it had to feel like one! So, I picked 5 best positions that we had never tried and seemed different and fun from the book. These included – the amazon position, the acrobat, the sammukha, the puzzle and the overpass. We could do almost all of them for a fair enough time, except for overpass. That one was a freaking challenge! But, that one’s noted. We will be trying till we get it right. Finally, my husband said this to me, ”I love the way we are so open about all our needs. This whole experiment thing is so beautiful because we really communicate with each other about everything!”

10/10

Conclusion

I absolutely loved the way this adventure went for us! Of course, Kama Sutra is not something that you can follow every day in a busy, running life but is sure a very good reference book when you need an excitement in your bed or a way to de-stress.

Much contrary to the popular belief that Kama Sutra is just about various sex positions, I discovered that it is way more than just that! It is about all the dynamics of love. We both actually felt it when I would hug him through the 8 Kama Sutra ways or we just stare at each other, synchronizing our breaths. It isn’t merely about the ways to go for a P-into-a-V session but redefining your relationship. Also, as per the book, a healthy sex life reflects on a balanced and stress-free life. It indeed does because only in a week’s time, I witnessed a positive change in our relationship.
