Step 1: Declutter your desktop, browser

We have an over-indulgent behaviour of creating numerous new folders on the desktop and pasting everything at the already claustrophobic space for easy accessibility. We also consistently press ‘Open in new tab’ to all the potential options that get reflected in our searches. And we may have one, two, three, four, accounts logged on in Gmail while we may just need one of them at the moment.

Today, make sure that you declutter your desktop by deleting all that is no more needed. Also make it a point to close all the extra tabs that are open in your system. Uselessly hanging tabs induce the feeling of unfinished tasks lined up for your perusal. Do not let them make you feel burdened.

Step 2: Change your wallpaper (of your system and of your seat, if possible)

An Osmann Murad fan? Put his photograph as your wallpaper right now or take a print out and pin it up at your work station. Or dream of buying Harley Davidson one day? Do the same, wallpaper it or pin it up.

Surrounding yourself with what you like makes you feel more at home at your workstation. Put some celebration paraphernalia or deck it up with minions if they are what keeps you in your best spirits.

Step 3: Press this point on your palm and ears

Acupressure is the no bother technique to relieve stress if you know the points to be pressed.

There are two easily accessible points on and around your palms that can help you release tension.

First: From the wrist, measure down with three fingers. Find the point where your third finger touches the middle of your wrist. Press it and knead your thumb in a circular motion for up to two minutes.

Second: Press the point where your wrist forms a crease with your hand using your thumb. Apply pressure for about two minutes.

For releasing stress through your ears, massage them gently using your thumb and forefinger. Pull your earlobes and rub the inner surface of your ears for about three minutes. This will soothe your entire body.

Step 4: Watch a viral video

Laughter induces relaxation like no other thing. Basically, laughter activates your body’s stress response and then deactivates it. This leads to a kind of soothing feeling leaving you relaxed. So, the next time your Rita masi or Ravi chacha spams your Whatsapp family group with viral videos, don’t just ignore them.

Step 5: Take 108 breaths

Just paying attention on your breath can work wonders for your body. A five-minute closed eye breathing can induce the most calming experience. Take deep breaths that fill up your lungs fully. Inhale and exhale and count at the end of every exhalation. Do this for 108 times.
