Can you get pregnant with precum?

CAN YOU GET PREGNANT WITH PRECUM? A pregnancy prevention method based on not letting the semen get inside the woman’s vagina – the withdrawal method - is gaining more and more ground lately. The concept here is to withdraw the penis before the man ejaculates. However, in the wake of new studies about precum, the method seems to have many grey areas which need highlighting. Is precum free of sperms? Can it not make you pregnant? What about STDs? We attempt answers to these pertinent questions.

What is precum?

WHAT IS PRECUM? Also known as Copwer’s fluid or pre-ejaculatory, it refers to the fluid that escapes a man’s penis before ejaculation. It is a clear fluid which leaks from the tip of his penis.

What is the purpose of precum?

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF PRECUM? Precum is released in order to neutralize the acidic properties of the urethra. This helps the sperm in surviving inside the woman’s body. Also, it works as a lubricant and helps in penetration.

4/9

What are the contents of precum?

WHAT ARE THE CONTENTS OF PRECUM? Recent researches have shown that precum typically contains immobile and dead sperms, if it contains them at all. However, things are not that simple. Many studies have had seen cases when precum had living sperms too.

Sperms in precum?

SPERMS IN PRECUM? A study revealed that some men regularly leaked sperms in their precum. It is a common phenomenon though and we still don’t know what factors contribute to it.

Can precum make you pregnant?

CAN PRECUM MAKE YOU PREGNANT? This is a question that can set you off if withdrawal method is your thing. It has called upon many researches and it is being established that it can. Though the chances remain pretty low because of the low chances of a living sperm being present in the precum, they still do exist.

Are chances lower in the second round?

ARE CHANCES LOWER IN THE SECOND ROUND? Many believe that if they are having a second session of sex, the number of sperms in the semen drop. That may or may not be the case, however, if your man did not urinate after his first ejaculation, there is a high chance that residual sperms are present in his precum which got stuck in his urethra. These carry a risk of pregnancy.

Difference between precum and ejaculate

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PRECUM AND EJACULATE: It is often difficult to draw a line between the two as you cannot exactly tell when one begins and the other ends. The two can easily mix and if you are deploying the withdrawal method, even a split second can make all the difference and get you pregnant.

STDs should be a bigger concern than pregnancy

STD's SHOULD BE A BIGGER CONCERN THAN PREGNANCY: Sure, the chances of pregnancy are quite low from precum. However, the chances of contracting an STD from an infected partner’s precum still remain pretty high. A study showed that out of 23 HIV-positive individuals, 12 had a trace of the virus in their precum.
