Cancer causing foods

Cancer is one of the deadly diseases which is growing at a rapid pace. You'd be surprised to know that certain type of foods in our daily diet could actually be cancerous. According to the recent figures, 1 out of 10 cancers can be prevented with the right diet. Here we list top ten foods that should be completely eliminated from the diet.

2/11

Burnt toast and rosted potatoes

If starchy foods like bread and potatoes are cooked for too long or at high temperature, they produce a compound called acrylamide. This compound is also responsible for changing the colour of the food into golden. Overcooking can result in producing excess levels of acrylamide, which increases the risk of cancer.

3/11

Excessive consumption of alcohol

Many studies have proved that excessive consumption of alcohol is harmful to health and can be responsible for causing cancer. Heavy drinking damages the liver and increases scar tissues, which lead to lung cancer. The less alcohol you consume, the lower is your chance to develop cancer.

4/11

Microwave popcorn

Easy to make and delicious in taste but these scrumptious microwave butter popcorns contain a compound called diacytel. This compound is toxic and can cause lung cancer. Radiation released from microwave also causes food agitation, which is again harmful to our health.

5/11

Hydrogenated Oils or Transfats

According to Dr Vinay Bhardwaj, Head of Quantitative Health at Grow-fit, transfats are obtained after the extensive chemical treatment of vegetable oils. They are known as a potent trigger for cancer, heart disease, and autoimmune disorders. The unhealthy levels of omega-6 fatty acids found in hydrogenated oils like dalda make it highly carcinogenic.

6/11

Potato chips and French fries

Hydrogenated oil is used to fry potato chips and fries. As discussed, hydrogenated oils have the ability to cause cancer and other health disorders. The high amount of salt used in these foods also causes high blood pressure.

7/11

Carbonated beverages

“These beverages are inundated with a host of chemicals, high fructose corn syrup, and unhealthy sugar levels and provide absolutely zero nutritional value,” says Dr Vinay Bhardwaj. The calorie content of these beverages is extremely high and this can lead to fatal spikes in insulin levels.

8/11

Refined sugar

As the processed or refined sugar is increasingly solidified, it becomes one of the most potent dietary risk factors for cancer and several other non-communicable disorders. As it is chemically processed, it increases blood glucose levels, which is correlated with an increased cancer risk.

9/11

Canned products

Dr Vinay Bhardwaj also suggests to avoid canned foods. These canned foods are lined with bisphenol-A, phthalates, and styrene, which disrupt hormonal balance in the body. A carefully regulated hormonal environment is crucial to ward off any malignant formation in the body and these chemicals interfere with this critical balance.

10/11

Charred or smoked food products

Charred meat and smoked food are prepared through grilling process. This increases the concentration of compounds called heterocyclic aromatic amines, which have the ability to develop cancer cells in the body.

11/11

Bagels

This delicious food is one of the white foods that elevate blood sugar level. Foods that contain high glycemic index increase the risk of developing cancer. For physical wellness, include foods that have a lower glycemic index, like brown rice, whole wheat bread etc. in your diet.
