8 ways to detoxify after a heavy meal

Here’s how to detoxify after a party binge

We have all done this– had paneer tikkas as starters, cheese burst pizzas as the main course, and blueberry tarts for the sweet conclusion. Of course, sided by some nachos and quesadillas. ‘Tis the season, after all. But none of us is fond of the gassy and bloated mess that follows an overindulgent meal. So, what should you do? Here is what you can have to offset the impact of a junk binge. These will, of course, not nullify the entire damage but will help lessen it to a great degree.
2/9

Water

This is the simplest key to flush out the toxins of an overindulgent night. Have oodles of water the following day as it will help you flush out the toxins from your system, will fasten digestion and will reduce bloating.
3/9

Green Tea

Green tea has gained ground and a lot of people are having it to for detoxification purposes. Rich in antioxidants, green tea is ideal in many ways to be had in the morning following an overindulgent evening. Some studies have also shown that it can be had to control blood sugar level and to curb cravings.
4/9

Greek Yogurt with berries

In the morning that follows your sumptuous weekend, have a low fat Greek yogurt topped with berries. Include blackberries, blueberries, or even plum and other seasonal fruits if you would like to add them. Greek yogurt is rich in bacteria that aids in reducing gut inflammation.
5/9

Coconut Water

This is particularly helpful if you are guilty of over-indulging in alcohol. If you had multiple rounds of old monks and scotches, have multiple rounds of coconut water the following day. Coconut water is rich in antioxidants and electrolytes like potassium, both of which you need for getting over a hangover. Potassium will also help fight bloating after an ‘eveningful’ of salty snacks. Other things that aid in a similar way are bananas and potatoes.
6/9

Water-Rich Fruits

Fruits rich in water such as watermelon, strawberries, pineapples and cantaloupes, are very effective in a twofold way – they contain a lot of water which helps you detoxify and they are rich in fibre which aids digestion. They will also restore the vitamins and minerals your body needs to kick-start a day.
7/9

Oatmeal

This is one of the smartest breakfast options if you want something rich in fibre yet light on stomach. You can top your oatmeal with diced pears as pears are rich in antioxidants and will help you re-hydrate.
8/9

Peppermint or Black Tea

If your stomach is experiencing cramps from your weekend’s rendezvous with food, these two teas can help you. These are antispasmodic teas (meaning that they release muscle tension in digestive tract and will aid in the release of gas through your body). They are caffeine free and will add to your water intake.
9/9

Vegetable Omelette

If your evening was dizzy and drunk, have eggs the following morning. They are rich in high-quality proteins and amino acids that help break down alcohol toxins. Adding vegetables like spinach, peas, broccoli and tomatoes to the omelette will make it helpful in digestion and de-bloating.
