Make your weekend healthy with these slight tweaks

We all work to get rewarded, and a weekend is our own way of rewarding ourselves, especially if it is an extended weekend like this. But this retreat plays a significant role in making or breaking our upcoming week. We can have a sleeping siesta in our comfy beds or we can be on the move. Whatever the case, make sure that you are not making the following mistakes.

Drop the last supper mindset

We often think that Sunday is our official cheat day because Monday is our day to start on everything – a healthy diet plan, join gym, start yoga classes and what not. Drop this mindset. It never works like that.

Avoid mixing your cocktails with soda drinks

A slight tweak can work wonders sometimes. If you are going to indulge this weekend, have cocktails that are based in fruit juice or any other healthy drink. Soda drinks are high in calories and avoiding them is always a good choice. Even better would be going for vintage wine for beer and scotch over fruity concoctions as they are lesser in calories.

Avoid pre-dinner alcohol

Drink it with the meal, instead. When you have alcohol before dinner, it breaks down inhibitions, making you less likely to choose a healthy meal. Have a good quality alcohol, like wine or single malt, and sip it while you savor healthier snacks.

‘No-carb’ dinner

Go for a ‘no-carb’ dinner. Dinner should be kept light and be had about three hours before getting in bed. Avoid carbs during your last meal and keep the pastas and breads for the day.

Healthy snacking

Swap chips for roasted makhanas and sweets for flavoured dry fruits. It is never too hard to resist but just about going out of your habit and choosing something healthier.

Don’t catch up on sleep on weekend

Our workweeks are always too hectic and we lag on sleep perpetually but this isn’t your passport to a weekend hibernation. Studies have shown that it may in fact harm your body. Sleep experts have been calling this phenomenon as ‘social jetlag’ and it does more harm than good.

Go for lemon water detox

After you have had your weekend indulgences, never miss out on detox. A lemon water detox drink, made by adding lemon juice in lukewarm water, is one very healthy option. It aids in digestion and flushes out toxins off your body.
