7 things you should never put in your mouth
Several dentist visits are because of broken tooth or a reaction to a food or item that you kept in your mouth longer than you should. Below are some items that a dentist will never ever put in his mouth.
Lime
Lemon is rich in Vitamin C and you are told often by health experts to consume more of it to keep your immunity up. But does it actually work like this? It may work wonders for your immunity but having a slice of lemon directly (yes, some people enjoy sucking on a slice), can affect your enamel and create acidic imbalance in your mouth.
Nails
Biting nails is an extremely unhealthy habit and can end up flattening the edges of your teeth - the front ones. It can even lead to building cracks in your tooth enamel and make them hypersensitive. The act of biting can also stress the joints and eventually lead to pain in the ears and jaw.
Hard-to-chew candies
The candy station is an exciting space for not only kids but even adults. But if your favourite among all is the one that takes a lot of chewing and grinding to dissolve, you are causing distress to your gums and teeth. There have been cases when it has led to cracked teeth.
Cigarettes
Smoking is not only unhealthy for your overall body but also for your oral health. It can lead to oral cancer, ugly stains and even give you bad breath.
Keys
Surprised to see this in the list? Well, some people have this habit of biting their keys to deal with their anxiety or kill boredom. Not only are keys filled with bacteria, it can even lead to breakage of teeth.
Potato chips
We all love to chomp on our favourite potato chips but the excess starch in the them can get stuck in your gums and lead to bacteria and eventually, plaque. It can also release acid production.
Jewellery
Your jewellery is the perfect breeding ground for infections and putting them in your mouth can hurt tissues in your mouth. In extreme cases, it can even lead to fractures in the mouth and receding of gums.
