Why do stones get formed in the kidney and gallbladder: 4 things to do to prevent them

What are Kidney stones

Kidney stones are hard objects made of minerals and salts in urine. The development of kidney stones occurs through the accumulation of minerals like calcium, along with oxalate or uric acid in urine. These substances will turn into stones, when they accumulate at high concentrations, because water in urine does not provide sufficient dissolving power. Stones can produce intense discomfort during their movement through the kidney, and subsequent exit from the organ.

Main reasons for kidney stones:

Not drinking enough water, which makes the urine more concentrated.

Eating too much salt, meat, or certain foods high in oxalate (like spinach and nuts).

Medical conditions such as diabetes, gout, or digestive disorders.

Why do Gallstones form

The gallbladder which exists below the liver, functions as a storage container for bile to form gallstones. Bile serves as a digestive fluid which helps break down fats. When the bile becomes unbalanced between its cholesterol and bilirubin content, it leads to gallstone formation. Stone formation occurs when your gallbladder fails to flush out in the right way, or when bilirubin and cholesterol levels exceed acceptable ranges.

Common causes of gallstones:

Excessive bile cholesterol content, results in the formation of yellow cholesterol gallstones, which represent the majority of cases.

Excessive bilirubin production from red blood cells leads to dark pigment gallstones.

Gall bladder not emptying fully, or often enough.

The risk of gallstones becomes higher when people are obese, old female, or have underlying health conditions

Four simple ways to prevent kidney and gall bladder stones

Drink plenty of water

Drinking enough water stands as the most basic method to avoid developing kidney stones. Your body needs enough water consumption to maintain proper urine concentration, because concentrated urine minerals cannot join together to create stones. The recommended daily water intake should reach 8-10 glasses, though this can vary for individuals. For this, check your urine color, since pale yellow indicates proper hydration but dark colors mean you need more water. The combination of lemonade and orange juice too, works well to prevent stones because they contain citrate.

Good hydration benefits the health of the gallbladder. Water makes bile flow smoothly and stay thin, which reduces the risk of stone formation.

Consume a healthy, balanced diet

For Kidneys: Reduce salt, animal protein (like red meat and eggs), and foods high in oxalate (such as nuts, spinach, and chocolate). You should consume enough calcium from food sources, including yogurt or milk. Your gut absorbs calcium which then binds to oxalate, to prevent its transportation to the kidneys.

The key to gall bladder health involves eating foods that are rich in fiber such as fruits and vegetables, along with whole grains and beans. Nuts along with olive oil and fish, should replace unhealthy fats and fried foods when choosing your dietary fats. Your diet should include limited amounts of sugar, and processed foods.

5/9

Maintain a healthy weight and stay active

The development of stones in the kidney and gall bladder becomes more likely for people, who are obese and who experience fast weight loss. Strive to maintain a stable weight that is healthy for your body. Crash diets together with rapid weight loss, create chemical imbalances in the body which increases the risk of developing gallstones. Exercise on a regular basis enables your body to handle fats and sugars more effectively, which reduces your chances of developing both types of stones. Also See: Kidney vs Gallbladder stones: What's the difference and 5 very early symptoms you shouldn’t ignore

Can upend life

Though not usually dangerous, stones can upend life

7/9

Don't skip meals

The practice of fasting and irregular eating creates liver cholesterol secretion, which increases gallstone formation. Regular eating at set times should be your practice, and you should never stretch your fasting periods too long. Regular meals maintain digestive health and proper gall bladder operation.

Stay well-hydrated throughout the day

Drinking enough water helps dilute minerals and salts in urine, reducing the risk of crystal formation that can lead to kidney and gallbladder stones.
