What is Prediabetes? Know about some ayurvedic tips to overcome this condition

It could have happened in many cases, while diagnosing diabetes your doctor advises you to rectify your lifestyle practices even though you aren’t diagnosed with the diabetic condition. This is because your blood sugar levels are abnormal or higher than normal making you prone to experience diabetes type 2 or heart diseases in the near future. People with abnormal blood glucose controls are often categorized to be prediabetic patients, with a high risk of developing diabetes later.

What is prediabetes?

Prediabetes is a part of the metabolic syndrome, and it's defined as high blood sugar levels that aren't high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes mellitus. Although it seldom causes symptoms, prediabetes is associated with obesity, particularly abdominal or visceral obesity, dyslipidemia (high triglycerides and/or low HDL cholesterol), and hypertension.

This condition may have been described as the following:

-Impaired glucose tolerance, which refers to blood sugar levels that are greater than normal after a meal.

-Irregular fasting glucose (IFG) refers to blood sugar levels that are higher than normal in the morning before eating.

-Between 5.7 and 6.4 percent haemoglobin A1C.

What are its symptoms?

There are no obvious signs or symptoms of prediabetes. But insulin resistance is linked to a variety of illnesses, including polycystic ovarian syndrome and acanthosis nigricans in some persons overlaps with this condition. While symptoms such as increased thirst, increased urination especially at night, wounds taking abnormally more time to heal and weariness have been reported in some cases.

What causes it and how can we manage it?

As mentioned earlier obese and lethargic people have a higher chance of developing prediabetes. But if a person’s pancreatic ability to secrete insulin gets impaired or if there’s inability of cells to respond to insulin, then your sugar levels may go up triggering this condition as well diabetes in the future.

While prediabetes requires a lot of crucial lifestyle changes, Ayurvedic practices can also play a supportive role in minimizing problems and alleviating risk. We tell you about a few of them.

Turmeric and Indian gooseberries (amla)

Mixture of turmeric and amla powder or turmeric in the amla juice helps to prevent insulin resistance in cells and functions as a glucose pathway regulator in our body. This concoction also protects against various other illnesses including cataract and immunity issues.

6/8

Fenugreek seeds

In mild type 2 diabetic individuals, fenugreek seeds have also been found effective to help manage blood sugar and reduce insulin resistance.

7/8

Strict implementations in your diet

Excessive consumption of junk foods, fried meals, confectionery, fruit sugar or refined sugar, soft drinks, condensed milk, cream, and even fermented foods should be avoided. Increase your diet of low-glycemic-index and low-glycemic-load vegetables and fruits. Low-fat dairy products and legumes are good options. More whole grains should be consumed. Instead of fatty red meat or processed meat, choose chicken and lean meat.

Maintain a healthy weight by using yoga and exercise to burn calories. Increase your daily physical exercise to help manage and return your blood sugar to a normal level.
