Want to lower cortisol at night and have a relaxing sleep? Try these foods before bed

It is completely normal to feel stressed and tired after a long day at work. Yet somehow, when one is unable to relax, that “tired but wired” feeling could be a sign of cortisol levels spiking up in your body. Cortisol is the body’s main stress hormone, plays a key role in managing our energy levels, mood, and alertness throughout the day.
But here’s the good part. Some foods, especially when you eat them at night, can actually help you relax. They calm your mind, help your body slow down, and even keep those stress levels in check so falling asleep doesn’t feel like a fight. Let’s explore

2/10

Kiwi

This small, sweet, and sour fruit is not just refreshing but is also loaded with Vitamin C and antioxidants that can help combat stress. The natural compounds present in kiwi aid in serotonin production in the body, which plays a key role in our sleep quality. Having one or two kiwis an hour before bed may help one fall asleep faster and wake up all energised and fresh in the morning.

3/10

Warm Oats

A warm and small bowl of oats in the evening, especially after a hectic day, can help calm the brain. It almost feels like a warm hug to the body. The complex carbs present in oats, such as tryptophan (an amino acid), support serotonin and melatonin production. Add a few pumpkin seeds or a sprinkle of cinnamon if you’d like something extra calming.

4/10

Chamomile

Most of us are familiar with chamomile’s calming properties, and a warm cup before bed can help relax our nervous system. A bonus point would be adding a teaspoon of raw honey for that tinge of natural sweetness can help regulate blood sugar levels in the body. A simple way to ease into rest.

5/10

Greek yogurt (with berries)

A delightful combination of protein with probiotics, both of which work wonders in supporting gut health. Since our gut is deeply connected to how our bodies handle stress, keeping it happy matters. Toss in a few berries for antioxidants and a little cinnamon for a comforting twist. This way, it will feel light, satisfying and will keep your stomach happy!

6/10

Banana

Bananas are rich in magnesium and potassium, minerals that can help calm our muscles and nervous system. Try and pair it with a spoonful of almond or peanut butter, take it like a snack that is not only satisfying but also packed with healthy fats and tryptophan. It’s the kind of comfort food that helps you sleep better.

7/10

Maintain sleep hygiene

Apart from these foods, maintain sleep hygiene as well and stick to an early bedtime.(Image: Canva)

8/10

Diet

Also ensure to eat a well balanced and nutritious diet.

9/10

Keep stress at bay

Keep stress at bay by meditation and indulging in leisure activities

10/10

Restful sleep

Try these, and get restful sleep at night

What a stupid article which doesn't take diabetics into consideration because some of these foods jack up blood sugar and it gets worse at night.
