1.28 billion adults aged 30-79 years of age have hypertension: WHO

Hypertension is the medical condition when the pressure in the blood vessel is more than 140/90 mm Hg. It is commonly seen in people and can be dangerous if left untreated.

As per the data released by the World Health Organisation (WHO) an estimated 1.28 billion adults aged 30–79 years worldwide have hypertension.

One of the most common reasons why hypertension progresses to a more serious condition is because it is undiagnosed in many people.

Only 42% of the hypertension cases are diagnosed

The UN health agency's report also reveals that less than half of adults (42%) with hypertension are diagnosed and treated and only 21% have it under control.

The WHO aims to reduce the prevalence of hypertension by 33% between 2010 and 2030.

In order to keep this life threatening condition under control it is important to know the signs of it.

3/7

Abnormal heart rhythm

This sign is characterized by the fluttering of the heart for a few seconds. This comes and goes away making it seem a mild symptom.

However, abnormal heart rhythm is the key sign of hypertension. Do not ignore this sign and get it tested from a doctor at the earliest.

4/7

Severe headache

Another typical sign of hypertension is headache, which is extremely severe in nature.

Hypertension induced headaches are characterized by perspiration, palpitations, and anxiety.

This headache tends to pulsate and worsens with physical activity.

5/7

Buzzing sound in the ears

Medically known as tinnitus, a buzzing sound in the ear means your blood pressure is not under control.

Hypertension associated risks like atherosclerosis, causes blood to flow through the veins and arteries in higher force as a result of which there is a constant buzzing sound in the ears.

Dizziness

Dizziness is associated with several complications, one of which is hypertension. In this the individual experiences a range of symptoms like feeling faint and unsteady.

Dizziness due to hypertension feels like a spinning or moving sensation. The person is unable to stand or walk for a long time without feeling weak.

7/7

Confusion

Confusion is another indication that your blood pressure is way above normal range.

While it also indicates a neurological disorder, if you have a family history of hypertension or have the other risk factors do not rule out hypertension and get a blood pressure test done.
