​It is a wrong perception that STD signs are only seen in private parts of the body​


Sexually transmitted diseases are difficult to deal with and more so when they are detected at a later stage. It is very crucial to get these treated at an early stage so that the quality of life is not affected and the disease is at an irreversible stage.

There are several symptoms of common STDs which are found in other parts of the body. Here are few such symptoms which are seen on the face of the individual.

​Sores on the mouth​


In Syphilis, large painful sores on the mouth is a big indicator. In some cases the sores are present in the tongue and the inside of the mouth as well making it difficult for the person to eat food or even speak properly.

Sores is also seen in Herpes disease. Initially it looks like cold sores.

​Pink eyes​


Did you know pink eyes are a characteristic of Chlamydia, a bacterial infection that spreads through oral sex mostly.

It begins as a common eye infection and starts after you have touched your eyes after being in contact with the genitals and the genital secretions.

It is believed that if left untreated this can lead to permanent blindness.

​Rash on the skin​


Sudden appearance of red rashes on the skin without any other explanation and particularly if you have multiple sex partners can be an indication that you have been infected with STD causing pathogen.

This is a classic sign of Syphilis. The rashes appear on a small patch of skin and then spread all over the body.

​Hair loss​


Though it might appear strange to you, hair loss is also a sign of STD.

In Syphilis cases, hair loss which starts suddenly and aggressively is seen in individuals who were confirmed to have the disease later.

​Other signs of STDs​


Apart from these signs, which appear to be mild and hence are ignored easily, check for other signs like painful urination, abdominal pain, abnormal vaginal discharge, discharge from penis, painful sexual intercourse, bleeding in between periods and pain in testicles.

If the above mentioned signs are seen, do not delay further and check with a doctor.

​Be sensitive!​


The symptoms mentioned in this article are not exclusive to STDs. There are several reasons for this. Hence, whenever you see someone with these symptoms do not draw conclusions. Advise the person to consult a doctor.

Do not ostracize people who have symptoms of STDs or who are confirmed cases of STDs. Encourage these people to take medical help regularly, support them mentally and help them to live a healthy and happy life.
