Just like every other form of cancer, early signs of oral cancer often go unnoticed and linger and grow in the body. However, if one is observant about the various signs and symptoms of the disease, the growth of the cancer can be checked at an early stage and can add more valuable years to the life of an individual.

Here are the subtle signs of oral cancer that can be potential indicators of cancerous growth in the body:

​Sore that does not heal

While mouth sores or sores on lips are seen in many people and mainly occur due to deficiency of vitamin C, it should be noted that sores which do not heal can be cancerous in nature.

If you have mouth sores and notice it remaining for a longer time, do contact a doctor.

​White patch in the mouth

A whitish or sometimes a reddish patch in the inside of the mouth can indicate cancer. Though there are several reasons behind it like gastric issues or a mouth infection, but if it affects the taste or even the speech, it is advisable to take medical help.

​Loose teeth

If your teeth loosens and falls down without any explanation, you should always anticipate something serious and not delay the doctor's appointment.

The first and foremost sign of cancerous tumors is a lumpy growth. When a normal mouth surface has a lumpy growth it will definitely come into notice.

As per the World Health Organisation (WHO), oral diseases including various forms of oral cancer, affect 3.5 billion people worldwide.

The different types of oral diseases are: dental caries or tooth decay, periodontal disease or the disease of the gums, oro dental trauma, noma- a disease of gangrene in the mouth, lip and palate cleft.
