Dementia isn’t always about forgetting stuff, and catching these quiet warning signs early really makes a difference.

One of the first things to shift — often missed completely — is a person’s basic personality or how they act, even if nothing in their life has changed. Dementia goes way deeper than just forgetting names or faces. It takes away the brain’s ability to deal with daily life. This one’s tough: sometimes the person doesn’t see anything wrong. This is called anosognosia. So you might see them:

  • Insist nothing’s different.
  • Refuse help or ignore advice about safety.
  • Act like things are perfectly fine — even when they’re clearly not.

This can be really hard for families, but noticing it early is key to getting a real diagnosis and the right support.
