Signs you have a brain fog

In the past one-and-a-half-year into the pandemic, we are sure you would have come across the term brain fog several times. It is one of the early symptoms of the coronavirus infection that may linger for a very long time even after the recovery phase. Brain fog actually is not an official medical condition but is a term to define a group of symptoms like fading memory, inability to concentrate, difficulty processing information, fatigue, and scattered thoughts. Apart from COVID, many other conditions can cause brain fog like stress and anxiety, which goes away on their own after a while. The one that is caused due to underlying conditions like Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, autism spectrum disorder, celiac disease, and neuropsychiatric disorders may need proper medication attention. Here are four common signs of brain fog that you must know about:

2/6

Difficulty in concentration

Lack of concentration is the common symptom of brain fog, reported in about 30 per cent of all COVID cases. In this, a person may have difficulty in focusing on even the simplest of the task. Even if they try hard to pay attention to the task, they may find it hard to gather their thoughts and finish the task at hand with utmost precision. They can feel confused and might make silly mistakes.

3/6

Slowed thinking

When your brain tissues are affected by the underlying condition you are suffering from, be it COVID or any other health condition, your thinking power may also slow down. A task for which you used to take 10 minutes to finish, you may struggle with it for 30 or 40 minutes. This could make you feel frustrated, but you won't be able to figure out what is wrong with you.

4/6

Finding hard to have a conversation

Brain fog may also impact your conversation and writing skills. When suffering from brain fog you may even find it difficult to find the right word to use in a sentence. You may feel that you know the word, but you are just not able to recall it. Brain fog in some cases even leads to short-term memory loss. When the condition is treated the patient automatically gains back the memory.

5/6

Trouble multitasking

Lack of concentration and slowed thinking can also make it difficult for you to carry out multiple tasks at one time. You may feel overwhelmed even after performing a simple task. You may see a drop in your efficiency and performance level because your brain would find it hard to concentrate on several tasks at one time.

6/6

The bottom line

Suffering from brain fog can make it difficult for you to perform simple activities. It can be indeed frustrating for you but remember brain fog in most cases lingers for a short time. Even if it stays for a long time, there are several medications to resolve it and go back to normal life. Your doctor may prescribe you multi-vitamins or supplements like Vitamin D, Omega-3s, Magnesium or Vitamin C.
