Akshay Kumar's fitness secret revealed

Akshay Kumar is unquestionably one of the fittest actors in Bollywood. He follows a strict diet and workout routine and has always been vocal about the benefits of adopting a healthy lifestyle habit. Recently, the Bollywood star in an Instagram live session with wildlife adventurer Bear Grylls shared a little secret of his fit physique by revealing that he drinks cow urine every day.

The importance of cow urine in Ayurveda

In Ayurveda, Cow urine or Gomutra is considered quite beneficial. It is recommended to people suffering from different kinds of health conditions. As per the 1000-year-old alternative medicine system, cow urine is a natural source of many minerals and its daily consumption can help the body overcome different nutrient deficiencies.

It is believed that when the cow gazes at the field, they eat many medicinal leaves, traces of which may be found in their urine.

Cow urine has been used in India for therapeutic purposes for a very long time. The urine of a pregnant cow is also considered healthy as it is claimed to have special hormones and minerals.

Ayurveda recommends drinking cow urine every morning on an empty stomach for curing different kinds of health ailments including diabetes, tumours, tuberculosis, stomach problems, and even cancer.

Other health benefits of drinking cow urine

As per the ancient Indian medical system, cow urine is beneficial for all. It not only cures the symptoms of the disease, but its daily intake keeps chronic illness at bay. Here are some other health benefits of drinking cow urine as touted by Ayurveda.

It is claimed to be helpful in treating leprosy, abdominal colic pain, bloating, diabetes and even cancer.

It is taken with black pepper, curd and ghee to treat fever.

A mixture of Triphala, cow urine and cow milk is believed to help overcome anaemia.

It is considered an excellent detox drink. Ayurveda believes that cow urine can clean the human body from the inside out by flushing out all toxins, thereby reducing the risk of chronic disease.

Besides, the fluid is also used for preparing cosmetic products like soaps and shampoos.

What science says

While Ayurveda vouches for the benefits of drinking cow urine, there is no scientific proof to back the claim. Cow urine is notably rich in minerals like sodium, potassium, creatinine, phosphorus, and epithelial cells, but science does not support that drinking it can be beneficial for health in any way. This mineral-rich product can be used for enriching the soil, not for treating health issues.
