Main reasons of hair loss

Have you recently experienced excessive hair loss? You should be aware that a number of factors can contribute to hair loss, and that treating the underlying reasons is essential to preventing hair fall. Overall hair health can be enhanced by leading a healthy lifestyle, eating a balanced food, and taking proper care of your hair. The following list of seven typical causes of hair loss includes recommendations for how to reduce or stop it:
2/8

Genetics (Hereditary hair loss)

Cause: A family history of hair loss, known as androgenetic alopecia, can predispose individuals to pattern baldness. Genetically-induced hair loss follows a recognizable pattern known as male pattern baldness (MPB) or female pattern baldness (FPB). Men typically begin to experience MPB in their 20s or 30s, when it manifests as an m-shaped recession of hair in front of the head.
Solution: While you can't change your genetics, certain medications like minoxidil and finasteride, as well as advanced hair restoration procedures, may help slow or reverse hereditary hair loss.

3/8

Hormonal changes and medical conditions

Cause: Hormone fluctuations during menopause could be one of the causes. The decline in estrogen and progesterone levels results in a rise in the effects of androgens, or male hormones. Because hair follicles decrease during and after menopause, hair may become thinner.
Solution: Treating the underlying medical condition, regulating hormones, and ensuring a balanced diet can help mitigate hair loss in these cases.

4/8

Nutritional deficiencies

Cause: Insufficient levels of biotin cause your hair to break off and become brittle. Your body finds it more difficult to absorb iron if you don't eat enough vitamin C-rich fruits and vegetables. As we've already covered, an iron shortage leads to hair loss.
Solution: Improve your diet by including nutrient-rich foods or taking supplements after consulting with a healthcare professional.

5/8

Stress and physical trauma

Cause: Emotional and physical stress can contribute to hair loss by triggering a condition called telogen effluvium. A considerable amount of stress forces a large number of hair follicles into a resting phase in telogen effluvium. Affected hairs may come out unexpectedly after a few months when you only comb or wash your hair.
Solution: Manage stress through relaxation techniques, meditation, regular exercise, and ensuring a healthy work-life balance.

6/8

Certain medications and treatments

Cause: A wide range of medications, including beta-blockers, blood thinners, antidepressants, cholesterol-lowering medications, some nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and hormone-related medications like thyroid medications, hormone replacement therapy, or steroids, can result in hair loss, though it is a relatively uncommon side effect.
Solution: Consult your healthcare provider to explore alternative medications or solutions if you suspect a medication is causing hair loss.

7/8

Poor hair care habits

Cause: Excessive use of styling tools, harsh hair treatments, and tight hairstyles can damage hair and lead to breakage. Hair that is damaged is brittle and prone to breaking. Our hair may become frizzy and unhealthy-looking due to hair breakage. We can eventually see bald spots or thinning hair if we keep damaging our hair.

Solution: Adopt gentle hair care practices, minimize heat styling, avoid tight hairstyles, and use products suitable for your hair type.

8/8

Autoimmune diseases

Cause: The condition known as alopecia areata is brought on by the immune system attacking hair follicles, resulting in hair loss. The skin's hair-forming structures are called hair follicles. Although alopecia areata can cause hair loss anywhere on the body, it typically affects the head and face.
Solution: Treatment options vary and may include corticosteroids, immunotherapy, or other medications prescribed by a healthcare professional.
