We are careful about diet but do not care about our eating habits

There are several factors that determine our health and one of these is good eating habits. On one hand, we are extremely careful about diet but unfortunately, on the other hand, we do not take care of our eating habits. These habits increase our risk of life-threatening diseases at a slower pace. Be it at home or at the workplace, here are a few eating habits you should correct immediately.

2/7

Here are a few lunch habits you should avoid

  • Skipping breakfast and having a heavy lunch
  • Returning back to the desk immediately after lunch
  • Reducing water intake
  • Skipping mid-lunch snacks
  • Indulging in mindless eating
  • Not having a regular lunchtime
  • Eating junk and processed foods regularly for lunch
  • Consuming tea and coffee during lunchtime
  • Eating too quickly
  • Not focusing on nutrients
  • Not having a plan for lunch
  • Not having a balanced diet
3/7

How does this affect you?

It does not affect immediately; the damaging effects are so small and subtle that they do not show until the damage is almost irreversible or difficult to reverse to normal condition. Bad lunch habits reduce your nutrition intake. The body does not get the essential vitamins and minerals to function properly. Irregular eating habits affect the digestive system. It imbalances the stomach acid. These symptoms, which seem minor and common, lead to major complications.

4/7

You gain weight!

Obesity should always be taken seriously. Even a little gain in weight should be dealt with seriously and efforts should be made to reduce it. An unhealthy diet contributes to weight gain the most. A body mass index over 25 is considered to be overweight and when it is more than 30 it is considered to be obese. The World Health Organisation (WHO) says in 2017 over 4 million people died due to being overweight or obese. Worldwide obesity has tripled since 1975.

5/7

Irregular eating habit is the entranceway to diabetes

Skipping breakfast is one of the major reasons for blood sugar fluctuation in the body. Starving till lunch disturbs the insulin levels and creates a storm for the onset of type 2 diabetes. When you starve till lunch, you tend to eat more at lunch which imbalances the food intake. It is advisable to have a good breakfast in the morning.

6/7

Unhealthy foods increase your risk for some cancers

Consuming unhealthy foods like sugary beverages, and processed food increases the risk of cancers like colorectal cancer. Unhealthy food causes obesity which is a risk factor for 13 cancers like meningioma, thyroid, adenocarcinoma of the esophagus, multiple myeloma, kidneys, uterus, ovaries, liver, gall bladder, upper stomach, pancreas, and breast cancer.

High cholesterol: Is it a genetic disorder or a lifestyle problem? Experts explain

7/7

Poor diet weakens the heart

A diet loaded with salt is detrimental to heart health by increasing blood pressure. Ideally, an adult should consume less than 2,300 mg of salt per day. These days people consume lots of salt without being aware of it; most of the salt comes from packaged foods that use lots of sodium to increase their shelf life.
