10 reasons why your cholesterol doesn't reduce (habits that keep cholesterol high)

1/11

Unmanaged high cholesterol condition is life threatening

High cholesterol is when the cholesterol level in the blood is more than 200 mg/dL, specifically, the LDL or the low density lipoprotein component of the cholesterol though other components like HDL and triglycerides should not be ignored.

High cholesterol slows down the flow of the blood and hence poses risk to the functioning of the heart.

One can detect the amount of cholesterol only through a blood test.

Statins are considered to be the best medicine for high cholesterol. Doctors prescribe these medicines to people who have a high cholesterol condition in order to cut down the risk of coronary heart disease, heart attack and stroke.

These people are recommended to have a healthy lifestyle. However, in several cases despite living a good lifestyle the elevated level of cholesterol does not come down. Here are 10 reasons, which might be an answer to your stubborn cholesterol level.
2/11

Your diet might be having hidden fats

A healthy diet is one of the key points in the cholesterol management plan. A fat-devoid diet is considered to be a healthy diet.

Our knowledge about cholesterol and healthy diet is that one should completely stop having fats in order to bring down cholesterol level. However, medical science says unsaturated fats or liquid fats are good fats while saturated ones are not.

Then there are trans fats which most of us do not pay attention to. Trans fats are the processed fats which are used in every food these days. These hidden fats are unhealthy and should be avoided completely.

3/11

Your diet plan is not supportive enough

While you might be having a healthy diet, the composition of your diet might not be sufficient enough to counteract cholesterol.

For example, experts believe that popular and trendy weight loss diets like the keto diet should not be followed by those who have high cholesterol levels in the body.

In order to plan a good diet you need to consult a dietician and inform them about your medical condition.

4/11

Your cholesterol management plan is not wholesome

You may be assuming that with zero-fat and organic vegetables you are all set to fight cholesterol.

The fact is cholesterol management is a wholesome plan. You need to take care of diets, you need to keep your body active and you need to be careful with the medicines.

Any breakage in this plan will not help you in controlling cholesterol.

5/11

You are physically not that active

While you may be happy that you are walking for 30 minutes and that's all to keep your cholesterol under control, the fact is that everybody has a different requirement of being physically active.

Insufficient physical activity is a reason for several life threatening diseases.

6/11

Your other medications are interfering with your statins

Medications like steroids and retinoids raise cholesterol level. People with high cholesterol who already consume other medications are likely to not get the required benefit from having statins.

Hence it is important to inform your doctor about it and maybe look for alternative treatments for other conditions.

7/11

You are binge drinking

Alcohol consumption has a direct impact on the cholesterol level.

Heavily consuming alcohol will not help you even when you are taking medicines regularly.

The American Heart Association recommends no more than two drinks a day.

8/11

You are not taking the right dose of medicine

Another major reason why cholesterol never lowers in some individuals is because they do not take the right dose of statins.

One should regularly check the blood cholesterol level and consult the doctor with the reports. As per the cholesterol level the doctor might change the dose of statins after a certain time period.

9/11

Your lifestyle habits are entirely focused on managing cholesterol

Reducing cholesterol is not a single day job. One needs to maintain a healthy lifestyle forever in order to keep the cholesterol under control.

Many people have random knowledge on cholesterol and make attempts to lower it quickly, due to which they stress themselves through different forms of diet and rigorous exercises.

One needs to understand that cholesterol management should be a slow and steady process.

10/11

You think that only medications will help you

Repeating it again, cholesterol management is a bigger plan than what you think. It requires the individual to adopt a healthy lifestyle, do exercises and take cholesterol lowering medications regularly.

Simply relying on medicines will not help you in lowering cholesterol if your diet and other factors remain the same.

11/11

You stress yourself way too much

We all know that cholesterol is not good for health. But unmanaged cholesterol accounts for most of the life threatening cases.

Being on the higher side of the cholesterol range does not put you at risk immediately. So do not push yourself to lower it overnight.

Keep your mind calm and engage in a good lifestyle. Focus on overall good health rather than just cholesterol.
