While yoga is essentially a physical act, it is more about the science of enlivening the body, mind, and breath in perfect harmony. At Patanjali, thousands of people witness this process every day, as it alleviates chronic illnesses that could not be fully treated with the help of conventional treatments alone. One of the most incredible stories comes from Mrs. Bharageshwari Rawat from Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, a 55-year-old woman who has emerged transformed by the effects of yoga and pranayama.
Mrs. Rawat had been suffering from asthma and long-standing allergies for many years. She indeed took allopathic medicines for a long time, but she was relieved only temporarily. The moment medication was stopped, the allergy would flare up again; this was a continuous cause of discomfort and distress for her. Over time, this recurring cycle of action and its results got her drained mentally and physically, feeling helpless in front of her disease.
One day, she saw a yoga program by Param Pujya Swami Ramdev Ji Maharaj on television. Inspired by the simplicity and depth of the practices, she started with yoga and pranayama. Gradually, she had a remarkable improvement in her asthma. As days passed by with more regular practices, the breathing pattern started improving, dependency on medicines started reducing, and later stopped.
Encouraged by these positive changes, Mrs. Rawat visited Patanjali Yogpeeth, Haridwar, for further treatment of the allergy. under the guidance of experienced Patanjali physicians, following a disciplined routine of yogic practices coupled with Ayurvedic care.
Her treatment included pranayama practices such as Anulom Vilom, Kapalbhati, Bhramari, and Bahya Pranayama, which are known to strengthen the respiratory system--improve immunity, and balance the doshas. Alongside, she practiced a wide range of yogasanas including Bhujangasana, Shavasana, Pawanmuktasana, Shalabhasana, Surya Namaskar, Tadasana, Vakrasana, Ardha Matsyendrasana, Gomukhasana, Mandukasana, Yogmudra--Dhanurasana, Naukasana, and Uttanpadasana, among others. Simple neck and knee exercises, yogic jogging, and chakra-based movements were also part of her routine.
Within a week's time, she had totally free herself from all the symptoms of allergy. Mrs. Rawat began to breathe better, with less irritation in the throat and gained energy and self-confidence. What years of medicines could not provide, yoga achieved naturally and sustainably. This testimony underscores the very philosophy of Patanjali: true health is derived from tuning with nature through yoga, pranayama, and Ayurveda.
