Periods can be extremely painful for some of us

Periods are different for everyone. While some women experience little or no discomfort, others experience excessive body pain and severe cramps. A bad period day makes us want to laze around and lay on our couch all day long. Movement is the last thing that any of us wish for on a bad period day but at times, it might be just the thing that we need. Certain yoga poses can help alleviate period cramps and provide relief. It is however crucial to note that everyone has different bodies and it is important to listen to your body and do as it says. You might feel like carrying out a full-fledged yoga session and at times you might only feel like sitting in one position for thirty minutes. No matter what, listen to your body and cater to it while performing any yoga poses.

2/6

Balasana or the child pose

The child pose or balasana is extremely helpful in providing relief in the pelvic region. It is advisable to use a prop while performing this asana for easing in during periods. Take a towel and place it at the crease of your butt. This will smooth things out for you.

3/6

Utthita trikonasana or revolved triangle pose

This one entails a little more movement than other poses and also provide the benefits of twisting postures that are practiced while being seated. Practicing this pose will facilitate the flow of blood to the pelvic region while the tissue of the pelvis remains supported amply. Hold the pose for five seconds when you perform it.

4/6

Apanasana or knees-to-chest pose

If you are experiencing intense period cramps, this pose is extremely helpful primarily because of the circulation of blood that it facilitates, and secondly because it requires minimal movement. Try and create small circles in order to generate awareness in the pelvic region. If you are on the first day of your period, this is just the pose for you.

5/6

Ardha matsyendrasana or half lord of the fishes pose

Like the triangle pose, this one also requires a bit of movement and can help cramps because of the very movement that takes place in the middle section of the body. Contracting through the mid-section, the health of tissues present in that area is also maintained. Do not try to twist your body any more than you can manage for it can backfire and increase cramps in the back or the mid region.

6/6

Utkata konasana or the goddess pose

Requiring you to stand up, this pose involves a bit of activity and might not be the best one for you if your cramps are too much. However, if you can manage a bit of activity, then performing this asana will alleviate your pain and help the tissues of the pelvic region.
