3 Cardio exercises for burning calories

For the afterburn effect, it is recommended to include strength training in your workout routine. The greatest thing about strength training exercise is that it not only helps you burn calories during the sweating session, the rewards keep on coming regularly even when you are resting. Even cardio can provide you with the same benefit and help you burn maximum calories, provided you choose the right exercise.

What is afterburn?

After a good workout session, your body triggers all kinds of responses like metabolism, digestion, and calorie burn. This continues for some time and can help to burn maximum calories when you are trying to shed kilos.

Afterburn is referred to as post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC). It is the amount of oxygen consumed by the body above resting level after your workout. This helps you burn more calories throughout the day that means you would be able to shed more kilos in less time. In case of cardio, afterburn can be generated by increasing the intensity, modifying the structures of your workout, and improving your fitness level. Here are three cardio workouts that may maximize your afterburn.

3/5

Tabata training

Tabata is a kind of HIIT (High-intensity interval training) developed by Izumi Tabata, Ph.D., at the National Institute of Fitness and Sports in Tokyo. It is a kind of interval training in which a person has to perform any exercise for 20 seconds with maximum intensity, followed by a resting period of 10 seconds, and then repeat the same. One exercise is repeated 8 times that is four minutes and then switch to the next one. Performing this high-intensity exercise increases your heart rate and helps you burn calories before and after the workout. Tabata training is also helpful in increasing stamina and endurance.

4/5

Cycling

Contrary to popular belief, cycling is not just a pleasurable activity. It is a cardio exercise that pumps your heart rate and at the same time helps your burn calories during and after your cycling session. As per studies, cycling at moderate speed for 45 minutes can burn up to 190 calories after working out. Even stationary cycling provides you with the same benefits, but with outdoor cycling, you have the option of making your session more challenging by going uphill. Outdoor cycling also improves and mood and increases stamina.

5/5

Plyometric exercise

Plyometric exercises, also known as jump training or plyos, are referred to as the combination of exercises in which muscles exert maximum force in a short period. This workout is a combination of power generation and neuromuscular agility. In simple words, plyometric exercises can help you build both speed and strength at the same time. This kind of workout increases your power and helps you burn calories long after the workout session. However, this workout plan is not suitable for beginners as the risk of injury is quite high.

HIITs and Tabata is nothing but a refined repackaged version of Military cadet training, we call that Hanuman Parades in Indian military.
