Chia versus hemp seeds

Chia seeds and hemp seeds are both powerhouses of nutrients. They're plant-based, contain plenty of fibre, protein and heart healthy polyunsaturated fats that help boost immunity and maintain overall health.

Additionally, these superseeds are considered to work wonders in weight management, which is great news for those looking to shed some kilos.

However, before deciding to add these superseeds to your diet, you must understand that the two differ in many ways and have their own specific nutritional values. Let us understand how that works.

Chia seeds vs flax seeds: Which one is more nutritious?

2/5

Nutrient composition in chia seeds

100 grams of chia seeds contains 16.5 grams of protein, 42.1 grams of carbs, 34.3 grams of fibre, 30.7 grams of fat and 0 sugar. The high-protein, high-fibre nutritional combination is what makes it great for weight loss. While the former helps keep the body energized and charged, the later improves satiety and keeps unhealthy foods at bay.

3/5

Nutrient composition in hemp seeds

Hemp seeds contain 31,6 grams of protein, 4 grams of fibre, 8.7 grams of carbs, 49 grams of total fat and 1.5 grams of sugar per 100 grams. So hemp hearts as they're also famously called are extremely rich in protein and contain lots of healthy fats, which again make them good for weight loss. However, they are low on fibre as compared to chia seeds.

4/5

Calories

Chia seeds and hemp seeds contain 486 and 553 grams of calories per 100 grams, respectively.

Calorie is the unit that measures energy, which is required for the healthy functioning of the body. In simple terms, it is the energy people receive for the food and drink they eat, which they use to perform physical activities. Additionally, calories also have a vital role to play when it comes to weight management.

People who consume more calories than required could gain weight, since the body cannot burn the excess calories in the body.

5/5

Chia versus hemp seeds: What's better for weight loss

Both chia and hemp seeds have great nutritional values. However, while hemp seed has way more protein that chia seeds, the latter contains much more fibre than the former. The two superseeds are packed with healthy nutrients, but both assist weight loss differently. They each have a unique nutrition profile, so you can switch to any if you're looking to lose weight.
