Genius ways of using leftover lemon peels

When life gives your lemons, use them to do the below-given hacks. From drinks and curries to desserts and snacks, lemon juice is used in a variety of ways in the kitchen. Usually, leftover lemon peels are thrown away but what if we tell you that they can be used to do a variety of jobs like cleaning stains and removing odour. So, the next time, don’t trash the lemon peels and instead collect them to do these genius lemon peels hacks.

2/7

Remove odour from hands

Usually cutting onion and garlic leaves a strong smell on the hands, which lingers on even after washing with soap. In order to get rid of this smell in a jiffy, just scrub your fingers and nails with leftover lemon peels. This will wipe away the odour and will leave a fresh smell on your hands.

3/7

Remove stains from clothes

Dropped some curry on your shirt while eating? Curries with turmeric usually leave a tough stain on the cloth, which turns worse if soap is used on it. To remove the stain, squeeze a few drops of lemon juice on the stain, sprinkle a pinch of salt and scrub the stain with lemon peel (from the pulpy side). Once scrubbed, place the shirt under the sun. Repeat the step 2-3 times to completely get rid of the stain.

4/7

DIY fragrance

Who doesn’t like a pleasant aroma floating in their house? If you like the fresh and citrusy smell of lemon, then you can make your own DIY fragrance with leftover lemon peels. Just burn 2-3 lemon peels and place them in a bowl in any corner of your house. This is the easiest way to freshen up your home without using any artificial fresheners.

5/7

Shinier artefacts

Usually, metal artefacts lose their shine with time and often appear blackish. If you too have metal artefacts at home that have turned dull, just use lemon peels to make them shiny again. Take a lemon peel and invert it to get the pulpy side outside. Now just rub the artefacts all over with the peel and keep it in the sun for 3-4 hours. Lemon reacts with the sun and restores the shine of the metal.

6/7

Skin scrub

Make a homemade DIY skin scrub by using lemon peels. Just grate the lemon skin and collect the lemon zest in a bowl. Now add 3-4 tbsp of coconut oil along with ½ tsp salt. Mix well and your skin scrub is ready. Scrub your arms and legs with this scrub to get softer and smoother skin. Avoid using this scrub on the face as it might not suit the sensitive skin of the face.

7/7

Clean crockery

Has your favourite Bone China crockery lost its shine? Does your white crockery have tough yellow stains which refuse to go? Don’t worry, as all you need is lemon. Take the leftover lemon peel, sprinkle ½ tsp baking soda on it and scrub the crockery with it. Once the crockery is properly scrubbed, set it aside for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, wash with gentle dishwashing soap and your crockery will be as good as new.
