50000 rotis daily to feed flood-hit North Karnataka!

Where there is a will, there is a way. These words of wisdom truly define the act of Nagendra, a Bengaluru-based caterer, who is preparing jowar and wheat rotis these days to help the people in flood-affected areas in North Karnataka. With the help of volunteers and donors, Nagendra has extended this help to the affected people and is open for support to make the ends meet.

The act of helping the needy

In Bengaluru, a small under-construction site has been converted into a temporary kitchen for the task, where people are preparing rotis. The noble initiative came to Nagendra when RJ Pradeep told him about the situation and they decided to pool in money and bought groceries to make rotis.

Preparing 50,000 rotis daily!

Yes, you read it right. These people are preparing 50000 jowar and wheat rotis every day. According to a media report, they need around 14,000 kg of flour and about 400 litres of oil daily to meet the demand.
4/7

How are they transporting the rotis?

They are making it possible with the help of the Lorry Owners Association. According to a media report, every night, the trucks leave and reach the destination the next morning. At present, the food is sent to a college near Athani in Belagavi district where there are 15,000 people, who were evacuated from their villages.
5/7

Why only rotis?

While discussing the flood situation they realise that only rice and sambar was being served at the relief centres. That is when they thought of sending something that is ready-to-eat and the idea of rotis came in. Made with flour, salt and oil, these rotis can be consumed directly without any spoon or plate and stays fresh for at least four/five days. Also, they are providing chutney powder, thokku and pickles along with rotis.
6/7

Asking for support

The group is open for public support and they are in need of help in procuring flour, oil and LPG cylinders to keep the noble service inflow.
7/7

Verdict

While nature tests our patience with such calamities, it’s the humanity that can help us overcome such disaster. Share this article with others and extend a helping hand to those in need.
