​Easy-to-make traditional Rakhi sweets


Raksha Bandhan is here and it’s time to celebrate the beautiful bond of brother and sister with some traditional sweets. The festival of Rakhi calls for some pampering and what can be better than preparing some delectable sweets to treat your sibling. Here are a few quick and easy traditional Indian sweets, which you can make at home without putting in much effort. So, roll up your sleeves and nail these desi sweet recipes like a pro!

​Kaju Katli


Add sweetness to your festival with this traditional Kaju Katli. To make this easy recipe, just take 2 cups of roasted/unroasted Kaju(cashew nuts). Grind them nicely. In the meantime, take a pan and add ½ cup sugar along with water and prepare a sugar syrup. To accentuate the taste you can add some cardamom powder. Then add the Kaju powder to the sugar syrup mix nicely. Allow it to cool and pour this mixture on a greased tray, let it set, cut into desired shape and enjoy.

​Kheer


Celebrations and festivals are incomplete without this pious delight. To make a simple Kheer, just soak some rice for 1-2hours. Next, heat a vessel and add 1 litre milk to it. Keep stirring and allow the milk to reduce to half. Once the milk looks slightly thick, reduce or turn off the flame and add sugar and soaked rice. Keep stirring and add some condensed milk, cardamom and saffron strands, mix well. Turn off the heat and add dry fruits and nuts, enjoy!

​Besan Ladoo


To make this quick Besan Ladoo recipe, take a large kadhai and heat it on medium flame. Add besan(gram flour) and dry roast it nicely. Transfer this to a bowl and to the same pan and ghee. Once the ghee is melted, add the roasted besan and mix well, keep stirring. Then add in powdered sugar, a dash of cardamom powder, and keep stirring till a thick mixture is attained. Grease your palms, roll small ladoos and enjoy.

​Pista Burfi


Yearning for a creamy nutty Burfi recipe, then try this delicious yet simple Pista Burfi made with the goodness of roasted pistachios. Take a pan and add in some sugar along with water and saffron strands. In the meantime, remove the pistachio shells and grind them nicely. Once the sugar syrup reduces and attains a good consistency, add the pistachio mixture to it and mix nicely along with a few drops of edible food colour. Allow this mixture to turn thick and transfer to a ghee-greased plate and cut them into desired shapes and enjoy.

​Badam Halwa


Make a creamy rich halwa with almonds and pamper your sibling this Rakhi. Just take 2 cups of almonds and grind them. Next, heat a pan and add some ghee, once the ghee is melted, ghee roast some sliced almonds and dry fruits. Transfer them to a plate and save for garnishing. Next, to the same pan add some more ghee and add almonds powder, keep stirring this mixture. Once the halwa looks creamy, you can either add some condensed milk or just add some sugar. Adjust the sugar as per your liking, transfer to a plate and garnish with ghee roasted almonds and dry fruits.

​Malpua


To make this quick Malpua recipe, take a pan and add sugar along with some water, keep stirring till it attains a two string consistency. To accentuate the flavour of the sugar syrup add in saffron strands and cardamom pods. Next, take a bowl and mix khoya, maida and semolina along with a dash of cardamom powder. Gradually add milk/water to make a smooth batter. Once the batter is ready, heat a pan and ghee to it. Once the ghee is hot add a ladleful of batter, allow the Malpua to fry from both the sides and turn golden in colour, transfer the Malpuas to the sugar syrup, dunk them and serve hot!

​Lauki Halwa


To make this quick and healthy halwa recipe, just wash and peel the bottle gourd. Next, using a grater, grate it after removing the seeds. In the meantime, heat a pan on medium flame and add some ghee. Once the ghee is melted, cook the dry fruits and nuts, transfer them to a plate. To the same pan add the grated lauki, keep cooking till the water is absorbed, add some condensed milk and add in the dry fruits and nuts. Add a dash of cardamom and serve hot or cold. You can also cook the halwa with full fat milk to get a creamy texture.
