
The ongoing raging war in West Asia involving Iran, Israel and the United States is now beginning to affect Indian kitchens and restaurants, as disruptions in LPG supply linked to the conflict hit cities and the hospitality sector. The shortage is being reported in cities including Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata, with restaurant associations saying supplies have become irregular over the past few days. In such a crisis, it is important to keep alternatives handy and the best way is to start using microwave ovens for preparing regular meals. Here we have listed seven popular gas-stove dishes one can make in a microwave.

Soak the poha, and add onions, turmeric, green chilies, and a little oil. Combine well. Microwave for 2–3 minutes and mix. Top it with roasted peanuts and coriander leaves. Your quick and light breakfast is ready.

Heat oil or ghee in a microwave-safe bowl, and add cumin, mustard, and dry chilies. Add soaked rice, moong dal, veggies, turmeric, and water. Microwave on high for 10–12 minutes. Once done serve hot with papad and pickle.
