FSSAI and tea adulteration

The practice of food adulteration is increasing every day. And according to experts, this practice is posing a lot of health issues related to nervous, digestive, and respiratory systems. To educate the masses and protect them from the dangerous side effects of food adulterants, The Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has started a series on Twitter called, #DetectingFoodAdulterants. Under this series, every week they share a simple test to detect food adulterants at home. This week, they have shared a video on how to detect adulteration in your tea leaves. (Image: istock)

How to detect tea leaves adulteration?

1. Take a filter paper and spread the tea leaves on the filter paper.

2. Sprinkle with water to make the filter paper wet.

3. Wash the filter paper under tap water.

4. Observe the stains on the filter paper against light.

5. No stains will be observed on the filter paper with unadulterated tea leaves. The filter paper with adulterated tea leaves will have blackish-brown coloured stain on it. (Image: istock)
