Must-try foods when in Kasol

Kasol is the ultimate destination for those who wish to stray away from the hustle and bustle of city life. With picturesque views, Kasol is famous for its temples, trek routes, valleys and of course food. This tiny hamlet in Himachal Pradesh is also known as mini-Israel and one needs to try out the famous Israeli cuisine at least once while backpacking at Kasol. This tourist spot came to the limelight quite recently and since then the place has seen a boom of cute cafes, restaurants, resorts and also paved the way for street food. Here is a list of eateries and specialities that one needs to try out while their stay at Kasol valley and make the most of their trip. (image credits-istock)

Momos at Shambu Momos

Like every other hill station, Kasol too, is famous for its Momos and the best place to have this delicacy is at Shambu Momos, which is located right across the bridge. It is a small eatery and serves steamed Momos with extra spicy red chilli chutney that leaves people sweaty, even in the ‘chilly’ weather.

Egg Paratha

Kasol is famous for its scrumptious Egg Parathas. All the dhabas in Kasol serve extremely delicious and filling egg parathas that one can have for breakfast, lunch or even dinner as the parathas are quite heavy.

Tibetan cuisine

Located in the main market, near the famous wine shop of Kasol, there is a place owned by a Nepali family where one can try out the best Tibetan dishes. Be it Thupka, Chowmein or Momo Soup, every dish is made from scratch and tastes out of the world. This place offers not only delicious food, but it is pocket friendly as well.

5/6

Dham

No celebration is complete without the special Himachali Dham. Dham is not a single dish, but rather a whole vegetarian Himachali Thaali, served on a plate made up of leaves. All the dishes are mainly cooked with ghee, yoghurt and different kinds of lentils. The use of vegetables is very rare and mainly different pulses are used to make the dishes. The most common dishes that are usually included are Madra, Meethe Chawal, Maa ki Daal, Mukund Badi Curry and Salad. Each family has their own version of this Thaali and one should not miss the chance of trying out Dham, while still at Kasol.

6/6

Israeli Cuisine at Evergreen Café

Visit this café not just for the food, but also for the chill vibes and the amazing view. The place has an option for outdoor seating as well and if the weather is in your favour, opt for that. Dishes like Chicken Schnitzel, Falafels and Mushroom Soup are some of the must-try options here. Apart from Evergreen Cafe, there is a whole Israeli hub in Kasol that offers the most authentic dishes out there.
