Traditional foods enjoyed on Easter

From ham, lamb, roasted vegetables such as asparagus and carrots to scalloped potatoes, and hot cross buns along with deviled eggs, quiches, and various desserts such as carrot cake and fruit tarts, there are several dishes enjoyed during Easter celebrations. Here is a list of a few of them and why they are enjoyed.

3/7

Hot Cross Buns

Hot Cross Buns are a traditional Easter food. They symbolize the cross of the crucifixion, and they're made with yeast, warm milk, eggs, butter and sugar. You'll also need salt, cinnamon and allspice for flavor; all-purpose flour for structure; currants or raisins for sweetness; an egg yolk-water mixture to glaze them with golden syrup and apricot jam.

4/7

Easter Ham

Easter ham is a traditional main dish for Easter dinner. It symbolizes Jesus’ resurrection, and it's usually roasted with glaze or served with a variety of sauces.

5/7

Easter Eggs

Easter eggs are a symbol of the empty tomb of Jesus. They're traditionally decorated with bright colours, hard-boiled, dyed, and hidden for an Easter egg hunt.

6/7

Lamb Cake

Lamb cake is a traditional Easter dessert in many cultures. It's made of pound cake, which symbolizes Jesus as the Lamb of God. The lamb cake is decorated with coconut and jelly beans, which represent Christ's resurrection.

7/7

Simnel Cake

Simnel cake is a traditional English fruit cake, decorated with 11 marzipan balls representing the 12 apostles (minus Judas). It's topped with a glaze of apricot jam and has been enjoyed on Easter Sunday since at least the 18th century. The name simnel comes from two French words: "similis" meaning similar and "nouel" meaning Christmas. This cake was traditionally served during Christmas time as well as Easter, but now it's just associated with Easter in modern times.
