How to naturally reduce body heat

How many times does it happen that you feel a sudden rush of heat in your body? Well, not many people experience this heat as their pitta is balanced. But when pitta is imbalanced, it brings instability to a person and one can experience acne on the skin, mouth ulcers, heat boils and even cause an outburst of anger. So, let’s learn some more about pitta dosha and how to treat this heat in our bodies. (Images courtesy: Canva)

What is pitta dosha?

It is the actual energy that governs the body's overall metabolism. Not just that, but according to Ayurveda, pitta also helps a person in processing and the perception of thoughts on mental and sensory levels. In short, it helps a person in distinguishing between right and wrong. When there is an imbalance in this energy, our body witnesses several unusual changes such as joint pain, increase anger, frustration, digestion issues, increased sweating and body odour, mental instability, etc.

3/5

What causes pitta dosha?

From stress to eating an improper diet that’s rich in salty and pungent flavours such as fried foods, and processed foods; lack of rest overconsumption of stimulants such as coffee, alcohol and tea, pitta dosha can be easily triggered. Even when you spend a lot of time in the sun, it can cause an imbalance in the pitta.

Foods to pacify pitta dosha

Many people don’t know, but bitter, sweet and astringent foods can help manage Pitta dosha very easily. Thus, one should include foods like ghee, apples, sweet grapes, melon, plum, leafy greens, papaya, and cucumber in their diet. Apart from these foods, one can also try to eat grains like oats and quinoa that are rich in fibre. Also, try to incorporate nuts & seeds like almonds, coconut and pumpkin seeds to get some relief from pitta dosha.

Beverage for Pitta Dosha

This recipe has been suggested by the 4th generation Ayurvedic Doctor Rekha Radhamony which not just helps in reducing the body heat, but reduces the burning sensation in the body while cleansing the channels and reducing excessive thirst. To make this beverage, one should take 8gms of coriander seeds and crush them well. Soak these crushed seeds in 50 ml water, cover them and let them soak overnight. The next morning, strain and consume the water empty stomach. As per her Instagram post, the reference to this drink has been taken from the ancient Ayurvedic text, ‘Sarngadhara Samhita’ (Madhyama, Chapter 2).
