Certain foods are easier to digest

Our digestive system is rather sophisticated, and works in complex ways to maintain optimal health. Even so, the functionality of our digestive system has limited capabilities, and it works more efficiently when dealing with certain foods as compared to others. Foods that are lower in fiber and fat are easier to digest, so be sure to opt out of such foods if you’re looking for quick and easy digestion. With that being said, here are 8 foods that are super easy to digest.

2/9

Yogurt

While dairy products often face flak for leading to digestive problems, yogurt can be excluded from the list. Yogurt is healthy and easily digestible even for those who suffer from lactose intolerance. The healthy bacteria not only optimises gut health which improves digestion, but it also helps to break down the lactose sugar, making it easier to digest.

3/9

White flour foods

Though typically foods made with white flour like white bread or white rice may not be the go-to healthy food for most people, they are certainly easy to digest. Because they are processed and refined, white flour products are stripped of most the fiber, making them easier to digest as compared to whole wheat bread or brown rice.

4/9

Sweet potato

Sweet potatoes are a good source of soluble fiber, which is easier to digest as compared to insoluble fiber. It increases the good bacteria in the intestines, which promotes overall digestive health. Moreover, sweet potatoes contain potassium, a natural electrolyte that contributes to better digestive health.

5/9

Soup

A warm bowl of soup does not just soothe the soul, but it also soothes the digestive system. Soup is a good way to consume food like veggies or chicken in an easily digestible form. Cooking the ingredients together breaks down the components well before the digestive system has to, making them easy to digest.

6/9

Lean meat

For non-vegetarians, lean meat is a good source of easy-to-digest food. Lean meat is meat that has lower fat content as compared to carbs and protein, and includes the likes of chicken and fish. The low fat content along with zero fiber make lean meat easy for our body to digest, not to mention that they provide an abundance of nutrition.

7/9

Cooked fruits and vegetables

Most fruits and vegetables are high in fiber, which makes it difficult to digest them when consumed whole or raw. However, cooking the fruits significantly reduces the fiber content, making them easier to digest. So next time instead of taking a bite of a raw carrot, try consuming it as a cooked dish.

8/9

Eggs

Both the white and the yolk are digested easily. Eggs are a nutritional powerhouse, and the abundance of nutrients help in keeping the body, digestive system included, healthy. Boiled eggs are the best choice, since they have no cooking ingredient that requires additional digestion.

9/9

Banana

Bananas are a rich source carbohydrates that can be digested easily. Ripe bananas are especially easy to digest, as they have less resistant starches as compared to less ripe bananas. So the browner the banana, the easier it is to digest.
