How these foods can help with weight gain

In the age of weight loss or inch loss, weight as a subject has become a matter of discussion among every set of people. While there is a section that wishes to lose weight, there also exists a set of people who are keen on gaining weight too. Today, gaining weight has become a concern. It is also so, because being underweight leads to improper growth and development in children and affects teenagers and even young adults. So, it is important to gain weight, but in a healthy manner. In a YouTube video, Dr Hansa Yogendra explained about vegetarian foods that can help gain weight in a healthy way. She states, "There are certain superfoods that can be consumed for increasing your weight or coming back to a balanced state." Take a look.

Bananas


As per Dr Hansa, they are an excellent choice. She states in the video that if you are looking to bring balance and gain weight, they are not only nutritious, but a great source of carbohydrates and calories. You can start your day with a banana.

How to eat: You can also have banana with milk or curd. Also, having two or three bananas every day is advised.

Rice


It is rich in carbohydrates and can be easily consumed in daily life. She states that unpolished hand pounded rice is much better than polished white rice. White rice is higher in calories, but nutrients are very poor compared to unpolished rice, which really helps in bringing balance in our health, she explains. Different types of rice contain different types of starch, which affects their texture and digestibility and thus understanding that unpolished rice is higher in fiber and nutrients. So that should be taken regularly.

How to eat: As per Dr Hansa, having two portions in a day is recommended along with normal lentils in a day. One can eat steamed ones or can be converted into fried rice with veggies too.

Potatoes


They are rich in starch and carbohydrates, and will help you increase your adipose tissue. It can be incorporated in your diet as a snack or in your meals, she adds.

How to eat: One can make pakodas for snack along with spiced besan batter or simply aloo sabzi for aloo curry goes well with rice or roti.

Sweet potato


It is also a very good option that can be consumed daily. She informs, about 100 grams of potatoes a person can consume per day, and this would become like a one bowl of potato sabji.

How to eat: Add them to salad or use them with spices as wrap stuffing. Sweet potato chaat also makes for a good option for evening snacking.

Chickpeas


They are high in protein, critical to an overall growth. She explains in the video that higher protein in chickpeas really helps repair and functioning of your body, and this will ensure an overall growth. Protein promotes in increasing your muscle mass, which assists the body in burning fat, she adds. Eating one serving of bean, peas, chickpeas or lentils can significantly reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and keep you healthy. It also would help you in weight management.

How to eat: One can make the popular spiced chole or they also work well as salad when boiled and mixed with spices.

Dairy

As per Dr Hansa, products like paneer, whole milk have high protein content. They have even high fat content, and that's what helps you in weight gain. She adds, drinking one glass of whole milk is the best solution to have at night before going to bed, and that would ensure good health as well as that would ensure a good sleep.

How to eat: Drink a glass of milk before bed with a pinch of turmeric, pepper, and a natural sweetener. And paneer can be used to make bhurji, kebab, sandwich, or paratha.

Tofu


She concludes in the video that tofu and other soya products are excellent sources of protein. They have a soluble fiber and also help in controlling diabetes, she states. It helps even in hypertension and many other diseases. Soy products should be very much part of your kitchen snack for sure, especially when you're looking forward for a healthy weight gain, she affirms.

How to eat: One can make a sandwich, salad, or even soup with tofu, they also work well as curry or stir fry with rice or noodles.
