Ways to utilize space in the kitchen

New Year 2023 is here and it is the right time to clear the clutter out and organize your home for a fresh start. What’s better than starting with the kitchen itself? A well-organized kitchen not only makes cooking a better experience but also makes storage easier. From utilizing space to making the kitchen more organized, here are seven useful tips that will make your kitchen more neat and tidy. (all image credits-istock)

2/8

Drawer Partitions

We all have a drawer in our kitchen in which half-empty packets of spices, dals and other grocery items are stored. Food items from these packets are emptied into storage jars and the leftovers are dumped into this common food drawer. This not only makes the drawer messy but also makes it a bit difficult to find the food item when needed. In order to organize the packets, use drawer partitions, that can be fitted in the drawer as per need and neatly stack all the packets in different rows and columns.

3/8

Grouping Items

Grouping common items together makes it much easier to find specific items. For example, have a designated shelf that contains all types of dals. Similarly, you can assign one whole shelf to spices, which can contain jars of all the regularly-used spices like turmeric, red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala, whole spices etc.

4/8

Corner Shelves

Don’t have much space in your kitchen? Use corner shelves to store jars, mugs and other such small items. Corner shelves can easily be mounted on the wall, either by using nails or by vacuum plugs.

5/8

Wall Hooks

Another great way to store more items in less space is by using wall hooks. You can stick hanging hooks on your kitchen wall and store items by just hanging them. Items like spatula, saucepan, ladles and even kitchen towels can be hung on these hooks.

6/8

Mug Hanger

If you have a wall-mounted utensil stand, then the best to store more items in less space is by using mug hangers. If the stand doesn’t have mug hangers, then you can attach vacuum plugs to it and hangs mugs at the bottom.

7/8

Shelf Divider

If you have large shelves in your kitchen which leave out a lot of space on top, then a wise to use the idle space is by using a shelf divider. You can place the shelf divider in the cabinet and store some items on top of it. Shelf dividers are easily available online and can even be found in local stores which sell kitchen items.

8/8

Chalkboard on side of the fridge

Use the sides of your fridge by hanging a chalkboard. This board can be used to note down shopping items that you need to get on your next grocery store visit or can even be used as a to-do list. If you usually plan out your meals one day in advance, then chalkboard is a great way to write down the whole menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
