​St. Peter Stiftskulinarium in Salzburg, Austria (803 CE)

Also considered as the oldest restaurant in the world, it is still housed within its original structure in St. Peter’s Abbey in Salzburg. The first mention of it in print appeared in 803 CE in the work of the scholar and monk Albuin. Also, both Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Christopher Columbus are said to have been served at the restaurant!
Signature Dish: Tafelspitz, an Austrian dish comprising of boiled beef with minced apple and horseradish

​Historische Wurstkuchl in Regensburg, Germany (1146)

The name of the restaurant could be translated to ‘Historic Sausage Kitchen of Regensburg’. For centuries, Dockers, sailors and the staff of nearby St. Peter cathedral were the regulars of this restaurant. The present building at this location dates from the 17th century, but archaeological evidence has confirmed the existence of a previous building from the 12th century having the same dimensions.

​Bianyifang in Beijing, China (1416)

It is the oldest Peking duck restaurant in Beijing and continues to specialize in the culinary tradition that started during the Ming Dynasty. It started out in a different and much smaller location, but expanded in 1827. Today it has expanded to include several branches and is one of the 10 restaurant brands in China.

​Zum Franziskaner in Stockholm, Sweden (1421)

It was founded by German monks in Old Town Stockholm, Zum Franziskaner. However, it is no longer in its original structure as it has been rebuilt numerous times, serving as a sailor’s tavern and fine-dining restaurant. The current building dates back to 1906 and still serves the same variety of beer that it did when it opened in 1421.

​Ma Yu Ching's Bucket Chicken House in Kaifeng, China (1153)

It is a historic restaurant in Kaifeng, Henan, China and is said to be originally established during the Jin dynasty (1115–1234). The Ma family began trading in bucket chicken in Nanjing after the Song dynasty moved to the south. In 1855, Ma Youren, a descendant of the family moved back to his ancestral home in the village of Laodong, Kaifeng, bringing with him a bucket of the traditional sauce. There, Ma Youren established the "Ma Yuxing Roast Chicken Shop" in 1864, specializing in bucket chicken.

​The Brazen Head in Dublin, Ireland (1198)

It is officially Ireland’s oldest pub. The present building was built in 1754 as a coaching inn. However it appears in documents as far back as 1653.

​Honke Owariya, Kyoto, Japan (1465)

It started as a confectionary store and is now the oldest known restaurant in Japan. It has been serving everyone from Buddhist monks to roaming shoguns for hundreds of years. The Japanese Imperial family are known to be fans.
